Spray cooled side-wall assembly for an electric arc furnace which includes individual spray cooled segments joined together to form a furnace side-wall. One or more of the segments can be arch-shaped and surround a spray cooled sub-assembly to address conditions of high thermal stress.

Modular spray cooled side-wall for electric arc furnaces

A vessel for handling a heated substance such as molten materials, and a method for cooling such a vessel, the vessel having fluid cooled containment means comprising inner and outer walls defining a space therebetween; an inlet into the space for a pressurized fluid coolant; means for spraying the coolant against the inner wall to maintain a desired temperature at the inner wall; an outlet for removing the spent coolant; and means for establishing and maintaining a pressure differential between the space and the coolant outlet to force the spent coolant out of the space through the outlet. The preferred embodiment of the invention is utilized as a roof or side wall for a metallurgical vessel, for example, an electric arc furnace.

Cooling system and method for molten material handling vessels

The probability of thread damage during the joining of carbon or graphite electrodes having tapered threaded projections or sockets is reduced by an improved thread configuration wherein the thread crest angle is less than the taper angle of the threaded projection or socket. In the preferred embodiment the thread crest is essentially parallel to the electrode axis.

An electrode joint having tapered threaded recesses in the mating electrode sections and a connecting threaded nipple, with a friable thread segment either in each threaded recess, or on each half of the threaded nipple, the friable thread being thickened along at least a portion of its long flank and being reduced in thickness along its short flank.
