A composition comprising a metal oxide and a promoter, wherein at least a portion of the promoter is present as a reduced valence promoter, and methods of preparing such composition are disclosed. The thus-obtained composition is employed in a desulfurization zone to remove sulfur from a hydrocarbon stream.

A composition and method for forming the composition of poly(arylene sulfide) having improved impact strength and crack resistance. The invention involves mixing poly(arylene sulfide) with a polymeric rubber, a metal hydroxide, and a carboxylic anhydride, each in sufficient amounts and in proportions needed to improve impact strength and crack resistance.

Properties of articles made from either glass reinforced polypropylene or glass reinforced carboxylated polypropylene are improved by use of at least one amino-functional silane and at least one polyurethane film former in the sizing of the glass or added to the composition separately from the glass.

A poly(arylene sulfide) composition containing an aromatic sulfone polymer and reinforcing material is provided for molding large articles free of internal cracks. Thermoplastic re-pultrusion

A method and apparatus for continuously pultruding non-linear reinforced thermoplastic composite articles are provided. A fiber reinforcing material impregnated with a thermoplastic material is pulled through a heated forming die whereby a deformable composite is produced. The defomable composite is moved transversely to the direction in which it passes through the heated forming die while being cooled to produce one or more angular bends therein.

Method and apparatus for pultruding non-linear thermoplastic composite

A composition and method for forming the composition providing a molding composition of poly(arylene sulfide) and a crack resistance and/or an impact strength improving amount of a polymeric rubber chosen from among silicone rubber, ethylene-acrylic rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber, ethylene-propylene-diene rubber, and poly(butyl acrylate) rubber. In embodiments of the invention the improvement is enhanced by the addition of organosilane to the composition.

Rubbery compounds as modifiers for poly(arylene sulfide)

An apparatus and process are provided for continuously consolidating and shaping a plurality of continuous prepreg structures into a unitary formed product structure. Each prepreg structure comprises a solidified thermoplastic resin matrix containing long reinforcing fibers. In operation, the respective prepregs of the plurality are continuously placed into interfacial contact with one another along their lengths, and passed through a heated die zone wherein consolidation and shaping are achieved to produce a desired unitary formed structure. The unitary formed product is then cooled.

Pultrusion process and apparatus

A filament winding process is disclosed for producing articles having a layer of wound helically extending fibers sandwiched between generally longitudinal fibers. The process is well adapted for use with thermoplastic resins and for producing articles having a high resistance to bending. In a preferred embodiment, there is disclosed a filament wound baseball bat formed from a thermoplastic resin, (poly(arylene sulfide).

Fiber reinforced article

An apparatus and method for pultruding reinforced plastic articles. The apparatus includes a first, hot die having a long tapered portion. The hot die partially consolidates resin-impregnated fibers into an oversized form. After exiting the hot die, the partially consolidated material is passed through a second, cooling die which finally consolidates the material and forms it into the desired, final shape. The cooling die is at a temperature less than the temperature of the hot die. Preferably, the cooling die has a tapered portion which is shorter than the tapered portion of the first die. A method is disclosed for pultruding plastic articles using the apparatus.

Apparatus and method for pultruding reinforced plastic articles

A process to form a fiber-reinforced prepreg and shaped objects having a continuous thermoplastic matrix of poly(arylene sulfide ketone) resins is provided. The prepreg is useful to form composites with high temperature resistance. The prepreg is prepared by pultrusion of resin-impregnated fiber reinforcement through a shaped die. The reinforcement can be impregnated from a liquid slurry or resin particles and a wetting agent.

Reinforced plastic

A ternary polymer alloy containing a poly(arylene sulfide), a poly(amide imide), and at least one of a poly(aryl ketone) and a poly(aryl sulfone). The polymer alloy optionally can contain a fibrous reinforcing material such as a glass fiber.

Poly(arylene sulfide) resin ternary blends

Compositions comprising a poly(arylene sulfide) which crystallizes to a fine-grained crystalline morphology are provided. A method is also provided for treating compositions comprising a poly(arylene sulfide) by incorporation of a crystalline morphology altering additive, heating the resulting mixture above the melting point of the poly(arylene sulfide) and cooling the mixture at a rate of less than 50.degree. C. per minute. Exemplary additives include a poly(arylene sulfide-ketone) and a polyaryl ketone.

Method of producing poly(arylene sulfide) compositions and articles made

An impact polyamide composition is provided by incorporating a nitrogen-containing conjugated diene/monovinyl-substituted aromatic compound copolymer with the polyamide. The resulting composition has greatly enhanced impact characteristics. In a further embodiment an organic phosphite or phosphonate is incorporated in addition which has the effect of dramatically reducing notch sensitivity of the resulting composition.
