A towed scraper control system automatically lowers the scraper blade to a working position at the start of a scraping operation according to a certain method. The method includes sensing a ground speed of the vehicle and sensing a draft force applied by the scraper to the vehicle. With the vehicle pulling the scraper at or near a target ground speed over terrain with the blade positioned above a surface of the ground, the blade is automatically lowered with respect to the scraper frame at a first rate until the blade begins to engage the surface of the ground. Thereafter, while the vehicle continues to move forward at or near the target ground speed, the blade is lowered with respect to the frame at a second rate and for a duration related to the sensed ground speed so that lowering of the blade stops when the scraper wheel begins to enter a cut produced by the blade. With the blade fixed with respect to the scraper frame, the scraper is moved forward at the target ground speed for a distance determined as a function of the sensed draft force. Thereafter, the blade is raised with respect to the frame at a rate which matches a lowering rate of the wheels as they descend along the cut, and the blade is raised at this matching rate until the position of the blade matches the position of the blade after the first lowering step. Preferably, the second rate is slower than the first rate.

Towed scraper blade control method

A method is provided for automatically determining a hitch raise rate calibration value for a hitch control system having a hydraulic actuator for moving the hitch, a valve for controlling flow of hydraulic fluid to the actuator and an electronic hitch control unit. The method includes applying a first control signal to the valve to cause the hitch to raise, determining a first hitch velocity as the hitch moves in response to the first control signal, and repeating these steps for a second control signal. The raise rate calibration value is then calculated as a function of a desired raise velocity, the first and second control signals and the first and second velocities.

Hitch raise rate calibration method

A suspended drive axle and agricultural tractor having same including a central housing having inboard final drives and left and right axle housing suspended therefrom by upper and lower control arms with axle shafts extending outwardly therefrom to which wheel and tire assemblies are mounted. A constant velocity universal joint is provided between the inboard final drives and the axle shafts. The universal joint having a pair of journal members and a coupling yoke that radially surround the drive and driven yokes of the joint whereby the axial length of the universal joint is minimized to enable the wheels to be located on the axle shafts at 60 inch tread spacing. This allows the drive axle to be used on a row crop tractor without altering the structure of the vehicle from a conventional row crop tractor whereby the characteristics of a row crop tractor are maintained.

Suspended drive axle and agricultural tractor with same

A hydraulic function can be extended and retracted under the control of an electrohydraulic valve unit. An operator movable command lever is movable into extend, center and retract region. A sensor generates a lever position signal. An electronic lever command unit receives the lever position signal and generates a valve command signal. An electronic valve control unit is remote from and communicated with the lever command unit. The electronic valve control unit controls communication of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic function in response to the valve command signal. A method of generating the valve command signal includes generating a command signal which is proportional to the lever position signal when the lever is moved relatively slowly, and generating a command signal which is based on a maximum excursion of the lever into the extend and retract regions when the lever is moved relatively rapidly. Command signals are transmitted to the valve control unit after a delay time period which is a fraction of a period of the lever movement oscillation.

Valve command signal processing system

A vehicle brake system includes a primary hydraulic pump, a secondary variable delivery pump, left and right service brakes and left and right secondary brakes. A service brake valve is connected between the primary pump and the service brakes, and operates the service brakes in response to brake pedal operation. Left and right service brake switches generate signals representing operational status of the service brakes. An electrohydraulic secondary brake valve operates the secondary brakes in response to an electronic control signal. Brake pressure sensors generate brake pressure signals representing the service brake pressure and the secondary brake pressure. An electronic control unit is coupled to the service brake switches, to the pressure sensors and to the secondary brake valve. The control unit generates the control signal as a function of the status of the service brakes and of the brake pressure signals.
