A printing press has an ink circulation and wash up system wherein excess ink is received in a receptacle associated with fountain rollers. Ink and/or wash up liquid flows by gravity from the receptacle to a valve below the elevation of the receptacle. From the valve, the liquid may return to a source of ink or to a drain.

A flexographic printer is provided with apparatus for sensing the level of ink in a trough between a transfer roll and a metering roll and for triggering an alarm when such ink level is below a predetermined amount.

Ink level warning system

A device to quickly reposition a slotter knife by moving the same in a circumferential direction with respect to an annular head which supports the same. During such positioning of the slotter knife, it is held stationary while the annular support head is rotated. This slotter knife is releaseably mounted on its head and a means is provided to selectively release the lock when it is desired to reposition the knife.

Quick-set slotter knife

Apparatus such as a paperboard printer slotter is provided with dual slotter shafts each having a device to quickly reposition a slotter knife by moving the same in a circumferential direction with respect to an annular head which supports the same. During such positioning of the slotter knife, it is held stationary while the annular support head is rotated. This slotter knife is releasably mounted on its head and a means is provided to selectively release the lock when it is desired to reposition the knife. The knives on one slotter shaft cut a slot on the leading edge of a first blank and the trailing edge of a following blank. The knives on the other slotter shaft cut the slot on the trailing edge of the first blank and the leading edge of the following blank.

Apparatus having dual slotter shafts

A printing press is provided with a dual ink circulation and wash-up system to reduce the wash-up time between color changes. The press includes a fountain and at least one receptacle associated therewith and having at least two compartments. Means are provided to selectively divert liquid from the fountain into one of the compartments while the other compartment is being washed. A plurality of ink supply means are provided for sequentially supplying ink to the fountain.
