A bearing cover assembly can be assembled to a bearing housing in which a rolling element bearing is accommodated. The bearing housing assembly includes an annular adapter and an end cap that can be mated together. The annular adapter can have a tapered inner annular surface and can be inserted into the housing bore of the bearing housing. The end cap can have a corresponding outer tapered surface. When the end cap is inserted into the adapter hole defined by the annular adapter, the sliding contact between the tapered inner annular surface and the outer surface radially expands the annular adapter inside the housing bore creating a positive engagement retaining the bearing cover assembly to the bearing housing.

A bearing cover assembly configured to assemble to a bearing housing in which a rolling element bearing is accommodated. The bearing housing assembly includes an end cap with a sleeve portion that mates to an interior conical surface of the bearing housing with a complementary outer bevel formed on the sleeve portion.

A bearing assembly has an inner ring with an inner diameter configured to receive a shaft. The inner ring has axial slots and at least two radial holes. A collar configured to surround the inner ring is provided. The collar has two radial holes. Each of the collar radial holes is alignable with the at least two inner ring radial holes. Each of the collar radial holes is configured to threadably receive set screws extendable from the collar through the at least two radial holes of the inner ring to engage the shaft. The collar has a radial slot and is adjustable to compress the radial slot to tighten the collar around the inner ring and the inner ring around the shaft. In the alternative, the bearing assembly may be provided with two collars&#x2014;one for a set screw only configuration and another for a concentric clamping only configuration.

A system and method for mounting a bearing assembly on a shaft includes an internal flange, external flange, and a sleeve. The internal flange is securable to the bearing assembly and has a displacement pin extending outward that defines an initial position of the bearing assembly relative to the shaft. The external flange is secured to the internal flange via fasteners passing through elongated holes. The external flange has an opening configured to receive the displacement pin. The external flange may be rotated when coupled to the internal flange with the fasteners between a first position where the external flange opening is not in register with the displacement pin and a second position where the external flange opening is in register with the displacement pin. A sleeve has a tapered outside diameter and is engageable with the external flange.

A coupling transmits torque between two shafts approximately aligned on a shaft axis. The coupling has a center axis approximately aligned with the shaft axis. The coupling comprises arcuate coupling segments with ends extending generally parallel to the coupling center axis and arcuate portions extending between the ends. The arcuate coupling segments are arranged in a ring with adjacent segments being arranged end to end to form the coupling. Each coupling portion comprises a first clamp ring adapted to be operatively attached to a shaft and a second clamp ring adapted to be operatively connected to another shaft. Elastomer material extends between both clamp rings. The elastomer material extends axially and circumferentially on each clamp ring in areas adjacent to each end of the arcuate coupling segment.

A roller bearing cage has a cage element adapted for retaining the barrel-shaped rollers and allowing the rollers to be rollable therein. The cage element includes a main portion having a plurality of pockets, an outward flange portion extending outwardly in a radial direction and an inward flange portion extending inwardly in the radial direction. The outward flange portion being formed on a side edge of the main portion and the inward flange being formed on an opposite side edge portion thereof. The outward flange portion includes an outward flange guide surface for guiding barrel-shaped rollers. The guide surface is cylindrical in shape and adjacent each pocket. The guide surface is adapted to abut an axial end of the rollers.

A roller bearing cage has a cage element adapted for retaining the generally cylindrically shaped rollers and allowing the rollers to be rollable therein. The cage element includes a main portion having a plurality of pockets, an outward flange portion extending outwardly in a radial direction and an inward flange portion extending outwardly in the radial direction. The outward flange portion is formed on a side edge of the main portion and the inward flange is formed on an opposite side edge portion thereof. The main portion defines the smallest diameter of the bearing cage and is less than the roller pitch diameter.

A coupling transmits torque between shafts approximately aligned on a shaft axis. The coupling has a center axis approximately aligned with the shaft axis and a center element formed from an elastomer material. The center element has first and second axial sides. A clamp ring extends axially from each side of the center element along the coupling center axis. The clamp rings may include slots for fasteners for mounting the coupling to shaft hubs. The clamp ring has a flange portion embedded within the center element. Each clamp ring flange portion extends substantially away from the coupling center axis within the center element. An amount of extension away from the coupling center axis is selected to provide the coupling with a desired torsional stiffness characteristic. In accordance with a method, the coupling is formed by selecting the flange portions that will provide the coupling with a desired torsional stiffness characteristic.

A mounting system is disclosed for mounting a bearing assembly or other mechanical element to a shaft. The mounting system uses a tapered sleeve mechanism to secure the bearing assembly on the shaft. Specifically, a pressure loaded piston drives the sleeve from a pre-assembled position to an initial position. The initial position is determined by monitoring the pressure applied to the piston. Once the initial position has been reached, a linear indicator is used to measure the axial sleeve movement from the initial position to a final position. The system remains in place after the bearing is installed on the shaft and facilitates removal of the bearing assembly from the shaft.

A mounting system is disclosed for mounting a bearing assembly or other mechanical element to a shaft. The mounting system uses a tapered sleeve mechanism to secure the bearing assembly on the shaft. Specifically, a plurality of screws point load the tapered sleeve and drive it from a pre-assembled position to an initial position. Once the initial position has been reached a plurality of fasteners then drive the sleeve from the initial position to a final position. The difference between the initial position and final position determined by the width of a removable spacer used in the mounting system. The system also incorporates a jack screw mechanism used to dismount the bearing assembly from the shaft.

Specifically, a method of operating a take-up frame is disclosed which includes reading a force indication, wherein the force indication is obtained and provided through mechanical means. Additionally, the method includes adjusting the amount of force applied to achieve a desired amount of force.
