A method for automatically enrolling a smart-home device in a demand-response program includes receiving an identification of a user account that is sent from a utility provider computer system based on an agreement that the smart-home device will be enrolled in the demand-response program. The identification of the user account is also sent to indicate to the device management server that the smart-home device should be sent to a location associated with the user account. The method also includes causing the smart-home device to be sent to the location associated with the user account. The method additionally includes receiving an indication from the smart-home device that the smart-home device has been installed at the location associated with the user account, and enrolling the smart-home device in the demand-response program.

Streamlined utility portals for managing demand-response events

A method of optimizing sleep of a subject using smart-home devices may include operating a smart-home system that is configured to operate in a normal mode and a sleep mode. The method may also include determining that the smart-home system should transition into the sleep mode. The smart-home devices may use a set of default parameters when operating in the sleep mode. The method may additionally include monitoring, while in the sleep mode, a sleep cycle of the subject using the smart-home devices. The method may further include detecting behavior of the subject that indicates that the sleep cycle of the subject is being interrupted or about to be interrupted, determining an environmental control that corresponds with the behavior of the subject, and adjusting the environmental control using the smart-home devices to prevent or stop the sleep cycle of the subject from being interrupted.

Infant monitoring system with observation-based system control and feedback loops

Various arrangements are presented for issuing an alert based on a baby's behavior. A video stream that images a baby may be received. The video stream may be analyzed to determine the baby is in a non-auditory discomfort state. A notification may be determined to be output to a caregiver based on the determined non-auditory discomfort state. An alert may be output that is indicative of the non-auditory discomfort state to an end-user device.

A thermostat my include a stored setpoint schedule, temperature sensors providing temperature sensor measurements; and a processing system configured to control an HVAC system based at least in part on the setpoint temperature and the temperature sensor measurements. The processing system may be configured to control the HVAC system by receiving an indication of a first time interval, where energy is available to the HVAC system at a first rate during the first time interval, energy is available to the HVAC system at a second rate during a second time interval that is outside of the first time interval, and the first rate is higher than the second rate; identifying a first one or more setpoints in the plurality of setpoints of the stored setpoint schedule that occur in the first time interval; and decreasing a temperature component of at least one of the first one or more setpoints.

Architecture for thermostat control during time-of-use intervals

A method for authorizing a smart-home device for enrollment with a demand-response program may include receiving, at a control server of an energy management system and for the smart-home device, identifying information for a user account. The method may also include sending the identifying information from the control server to an Application Program Interface (API) with an enrollment request. The method may additionally include receiving, at the control server, a determination from the API as to whether the identifying information for the user account was matched to an existing utility account. The method may further include based on the determination from the API, determining whether the smart-home device can be enrolled with the demand-response program.
