A system and method for treating a tissue is provided. The treatment causes a tightening or lifting of tissue. The method includes delivering a photochemical agent through a depth of the tissue to distribute the photochemical agent adjacent proteins within the tissue and irradiating the tissue with an electromagnetic irradiation at a wavelength that activates the photochemical agent, causing a protein response that brings fibers of the tissue closer together in order to one of reduce tissue laxity and tighten the tissue. A kit is provided to facilitate the method.

Method and apparatus for tightening skin and other tissues

One aspect of the invention provides a method for preparing a vein graft. The method includes: applying a tissue passivation agent to a resected anatomical vessel; placing the resected anatomical vessel in a chamber; and allowing the tissue passivation agent to cross-link while the resected anatomical vessel is in the chamber.

Vessel treatment systems, methods, and kits

One aspect of the invention provides a method of preventing or reducing stenosis in a subject. The method includes implanting a passivated graft comprising vein into an artery. The implanting of the graft replaces and/or bypasses a diseased segment of the artery. The passivated graft including vein is prepared by exposing the exterior surface of the passivated graft comprising vein to a tissue structure stabilizing agent ('TSSA') under conditions sufficient to promote cross-linking of proteins within the vein.

One aspect of the invention provides an apparatus including: a fluid-impermeable membrane configured to contain a fluid and be placed in the cavity; a light emitter provided within the membrane; and a fluid provided within the membrane, wherein the fluid scatters light emitted by the light emitter such that the intensity of the light is substantially uniform over the inner surface of the cavity proximal to the membrane.

Apparatus for tissue irradiation and methods and kits utilizing the same

Methods of tissue passivation are described herein for use in preserving normal tissue architecture, reducing post-surgical inflammation, and reducing or preventing the development of pathogenic collagen bundles and adhesions following surgical procedures. One aspect of the invention provides a vessel treatment system including: a housing defining at least one opening adapted and configured to receive an anatomical vessel; and a humidifier in communication with the housing, the humidifier adapted and configured to introduce humidity into the housing to prevent desiccation of the anatomical vessel. Another aspect of the invention provides a kit including: the vessel treatment system as described herein; and a passivation agent. Another aspect of the invention provides a method for preparing a vein graft. The method includes: applying a tissue passivation agent to a resected anatomical vessel; and placing the resected anatomical vessel in a humidified chamber while the tissue passivation agent cures.

Systems and methods for controlling a tissue of a subject using applied pulsed electric fields. The system for controlling a therapy provided to a tissue of a subject using applied pulsed electric fields. The system includes an electrode assembly configured to engage a skin tissue of a subject to deliver a series of electric field pulses to the skin tissue and a user input configured to receive an operational instruction for the series of electric field pulses. The operational instruction defines at least one of a pulse duration, a pulse frequency, a pulse number, and a pulse amplitude. The system also includes at least one processor configured to access the operational instruction received by the user input and, using the operational instruction, create an electric field profile to be generated by the electrode assembly about the skin tissue of the subject to control a fibroblast characteristic while preserving a vascular perfusion in at least a portion of the skin tissue. The processor is also caused to control the electrode assembly using the electric field profile to deliver the series of electric field pulses to control the fibroblast characteristic.

Systems and methods for delivering pulsed electric fields to skin tissue

The present invention provides polymers for use in preventing damage to the membranes of cells in fat grafts. Mixing of a triblock copolymer such as poloxymer P188 with adipocytes or adipose tissue to be transplanted into a subject is thought to stabilize the membranes of the cells leading to more successful fat transplantation in soft tissue reconstruction or augmentation. Such methods may also be used in the transplantation of adult stem cells or other cells derived from fat tissue. Other agents such as lipoic acid may also be added to the polymer/cell compositions for cell transplantation.
