Inorganic phosphate compositions and methods

A fluorescent lamp includes a tubular member or envelope having an arc generating and sustaining medium therein. An electrode is provided in each end of the tubular member and a phosphor coating is applied to the interior surface of the tubular member. A mercury dispenser is situated within the tubular member. The mercury dispenser includes a body composed of a material. The body is provided with a bore. A wire plated with a material capable of wetting mercury is provided in the bore. A quantity of mercury is deposited in the bore in contact with the wire.

A fluorescent lamp () includes a tubular member or envelope () having an arc generating and sustaining medium () therein. As known, the tubular envelope () is constructed of a suitable glass, for example lime glass. An electrode () is provided in each end of the tubular member () and a phosphor coating () is applied to the interior surface () of the tubular member (). A mercury dispenser () is situated within the tubular member (). The mercury dispenser () includes a body () composed of a material selected from the group consisting of glass and ceramic materials. The body () is provided with a bore (). A first material () capable of wetting mercury coats the bore. In a preferred embodiment the first material () is silver having a thickness between 0.1&#x3bc; and 8&#x3bc;. A quantity of mercury () is deposited in the bore () in contact with the first material ().

Mercury dispenser, method of making mercury dispenser and method of dosing mercury into ARC discharge lamp

A lamp includes a linearly extending heat sink, blue-light-emitting LEDs mounted on the heat sink, and a light emitting cover mounted on the heat sink in line with the LEDs, a first portion of the cover opposite the LEDs including a phosphor that is excited by the LEDs to emit white light. The cover may be a tube with the LEDs outside the tube, a portion of the tube nearest the LEDs being transparent and receiving light from the LEDs. The tube may include reflectors that are attached to an exterior surface of the tube to hold the tube on the heat sink. Alternatively, the cover may enclose the LEDs on the heat sink, where a portion of the cover has an interior surface that reflects light from the LEDs to the first portion. The lamp may include electrical connections that allow for multiple lamps to be connected in series.

A dispenser () for a volatilizable material has a first member () that is substantially cup-shaped with a given diameter (X) and with a given depth (Z) and having a first peripheral flange () having a first diameter (D). A second member () has a second peripheral flange () with a second diameter (D) greater than the given diameter (X). The first peripheral flange () and the second peripheral flange () are in intimate contact thereby defining a volatilizable material chamber () between the bottom () of the second member () and the bottom () of the first cup-shaped member (). A volatilizable material () such as liquid mercury is placed in the chamber; and a hermetic seal () is formed between the first and second flanges. When installed in a fluorescent lamp the volatilizable material is released by heating the dispenser with RF current. The material is released when the vapor pressure within the dispenser reaches about 20 atmospheres. For mercury, this pressure is achieved when the dispenser reaches about 600&#xb0; C.

A mercury capsule for use in a fluorescent lamp comprises a shell defining a chamber and a bore extending through the shell. A body of mercury is disposed in the chamber. A plug is disposed in the bore to seal the bore. The plug exhibits a melting point reached in manufacture of the fluorescent lamp, to melt from the bore to open an exit passageway for the mercury. A method for making the capsule is provided.

An apparatus for controlling smoke in the event of a fire. The apparatus has a manual release arm pivotally secured to a base surface and a spring with one end attached to the base surface and the other end connected to the manual release arm. A releasing arm is pivotally connected to the base surface, and a fire linkage is pivotally secured to the base surface and releasably engages the releasing arm and the manual release arm. A bar under tension releasably engages the releasing arm such that when the releasing arm pivots and releases the bar, the bar travels away from the releasing arm due to the tension. A method for controlling smoke, or like, in the event of a fire.

Smoke ventilation apparatus and method

An improved pet safety flea collar which provides a frictional release of the collar when an animal becomes entangled to prevent strangulation of the animal. The collar includes a free end and a flared end having a chamber, sized to receive the free end of the collar such that a frictional engagement is achieved between the free end of the collar and the flared end chamber. The flared end chamber is shaped in the same contour and cross-section as the free end. The depth of the chamber is selected to provide sufficient penetration of the free end to establish the necessary frictional force to withstand scratching and normal movements of the animal while allowing release should the animal pull with sufficient force if tangled by the collar and an object. The material utilized for the body of the collar is a conventional flea collar material that dispenses an insecticide.
