A glass lamp base may be formed by thinning the glass base in the area behind the point where the side lead is welded to the exterior surface of the screw. Thinning the glass behind the weld area helps assure that the remaining glass is firmly positioned to the back of the screw in the area of the weld, and has not slumped away from the screw. Assuring the glass backing is present, increases the likelihood of a successful weld, and functional lamp.

Glass lamp base

A single-ended lamp having a double-ended light-source capsule mounted axially within an outer envelope on thermally conductive support members such that the amount of heat conducted to the base region of the lamp through each support member is approximately equal. In a preferred embodiment, a high-pressure sodium PAR lamp having a temperature-sensitive component in the lamp base employs two support wires for the arc tube; the support wire coupled with the arc tube end closer to the lamp base has a loop formed therein so that the lengths of both support wires are approximately equal and the thermal conductivity of both support wires are also approximately equal in the operating environment of the lamp; whereby the temperature-sensitive component operates within acceptable temperature limits. In alternate embodiments, each support member may employ one or more loops or other configurations in order to minimize the amount of heat transferred to the lamp base through conduction in the support members. The invention has particular application in lamps having temperature-sensitive components or materials in the base region of the lamp, or where the temperature of the lamp socket or its surroundings is particularly constrained.

Spot lamp

A spot lamp having a lens in the form of a curved member having an inner surface with a series of radially disposed flutes formed therein defining a fluted portion which surrounds a centrally disposed stippled portion. The flutes each extend linearly from a position adjacent the stippled portion outwardly to a position adjacent the outer edge of the curved member. The surfaces of the flutes are also stippled.

Par spot lamp

A flood lamp having a lens with a series of concentrically disposed fluted rings on the internal lens surface in combination with an outer concentric ring adjacent to and wider than any one of the fluted rings and containing a plurality of semi-spherical protrusions disposed in an established pattern (e.g., circular or hexagonal). The flood lamp reflector has multiple reflective surfaces including a front section that is parabolic shape having a principle focal point, a spherical section having its center of radius coincident with the principle focal point of the parabolic front section, and a spherical rear section.

PAR Flood lamp

A spot lamp having a lens with a series of concentrically disposed fluted rings on the internal lens surface in combination with an outer concentric ring adjacent to and wider than any one of the fluted rings and having a stippled surface. The spot lamp reflector has multiple reflective surfaces including a front section that is parabolic shape having a principle focal point, a spherical section having its center of radius coincident with the principle focal point of the parabolic front section, and a spherical rear section.
