A printer for producing a print media moving in a process direction including a print engine, a fuser, a full width array and a duplexing path. The print engine is operatively arranged to receive the print media and to apply a first dry marking material to a first surface of the print media. The fuser is arranged subsequently to the print engine in the process direction and is operatively arranged to receive the print media with the first dry marking material applied to the first surface of the print media and to fix the first dry marking material on the first surface using at least one of heat and pressure. A tension and detensioning assembly includes a frame and a moveable tensioning roll for tensioning the continious loop belt. The moveable tensioning roll has an axis, a first end, a second end, a first position for tensioning the continous loop belt, and a second position when the continous loop belt is detensioned. When the moveable tensioning roll is in the second position, the first end is spaced a first distance from the first position, and the second end is spaced (from the first position) a second distance that is different from the first distance in order to enable safe, efficient and controlled, non-slipping removal and reinstallation of the flexible closed loop photoreceptor belt. The tensioning and detensioning assembly also includes a first moving apparatus for moving the moveable tensioning roll into the first position, and a second moving apparatus including a release device in the form of an elongate member having a first end and a second end, a first edge and a second edge having a first cam surface at the first end and a second cam surface at the second end for moving the first end through the first distance, and the second end through the second distance, thus moving the moveable tensioning roll into the second position, and thereby enabling controlled and non-slipping removal and reinstallation of the belt or photoreceptor.

An alignment baffle for use in a printing apparatus having a conveying mechanism for conveying images toward an image transfer area and copy sheet chute for guiding copy sheets toward the conveying mechanism is provided. The images are transferred to the copy sheets in the transfer area. The baffle includes a body operably associated with the image transfer area and a first member connected to the body and spaced from the copy sheet chute. The first member has a first member surface for guiding the copy sheet. The baffle also includes a second member operably associated with the first member, connected to the body and spaced from the copy sheet chute. The second member has a second member surface for guiding the copy sheet. The first member and the second member have a passageway therebetween for passage of the copy sheets therebetween. The first member surface and the second member surface cooperate with the copy sheets to guide the copy sheets in a path tangential to the conveying mechanism.

An apparatus which transfers a developed image from a photoconductive surface to a copy sheet. The apparatus includes a corona generating device arranged to charge the copy sheet for establishing a transfer field that is effective to attract the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet and a blade which is moved from a non-operative position spaced from the copy sheet, to an operative position, in contact with the copy sheet for pressing the copy sheet into contact with at least the developed image on the photoconductive surface to substantially eliminate any spaces between the copy sheet and the developed image during transfer of the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet. The blade is fabricated to include a conductive material for preventing the generation of electrostatic charge on the blade which may create copy quality defects as a lead edge of the copy sheet passes between the blade and the photoconductive surface.

A corona generating device including a housing for receiving a replaceable shield having a base shield element and a pair of side shield elements, wherein each of the shield elements are mounted in the housing in a configuration so as to partially enclose a corona generating electrode. The housing is provided with pivotable side panels which each further include a pair of lip elements forming a channel for slidably receiving a respective side shield element. The side panels are pivoted about a pivot axis for facilitating the service and replacement of the side shield elements to thereby prolong the operational life of the corona generating device.

The electrophotographic printing machine includes a slidable module for supporting a photoconductive member, the slidable module being movable relative to the electrophotographic subsytems such that the photoconductive member is retractably displaceable from the electrophotographic printing machine to provide access thereto. A wiper assembly, engaging with an exposed surface of at least one of the electrophotographic subsytems, is mounted on the slidable module such that the wiper means is slidably engaged with the exposed surface to provide cleaning action thereagainst in accordance with the slidable movement of the slidable module.

A method and apparatus for replacing a corona generating electrode assembly in a housing, wherein a plurality of replacement electrodes are removably mounted in a configuration substantially equivalent to the operational configuration thereof on a rigid support frame. The procedure for replacing a malfunctioning or otherwise spent corona generating electrode is substantially facilitated through a relatively simple 'snap-fit' process, wherein replacement is accomplished by pressing the housing against the corona generating electrode assembly on the rigid support frame so as to simultaneously mount the corona generating electrode in the housing while removing the corona generating electrode from the rigid support frame. The tool provides substantial time savings while yielding incidental advantages by reducing breakage of new electrodes as often occurs during replacement using prior techniques.
