An apparatus for lifting planar objects which includes an extendable rectilinear elongated frame formed of at least two spaced U-beams, each U-beam defining a longitudinal runway and having an elongated area removed from a forward face below a midpoint of the frame. The removed elongated area defines an entranceway to the longitudinal runway. The entranceway is dimensioned to receive the planar object for placement on a transport carriage while maintaining a top portion of the planar object within the longitudinal runway. The carriage is configured to laterally span the two spaced U-beams such that a portion of the carriage and a portion of the planar object are confined within each interior longitudinal runway at least during transport. A skid is perpendicularly joined to a forward face of the carriage at about its bottom edge. The skid is configured to support the planar object during placement and lifting. A pull cable is affixed at one end to the carriage at about a midpoint of a lateral dimension and in proximity to a top edge of the carriage. A first cross member is laterally joined to a top of the frame which includes a pulley aligned such that the pull cable when in communication with the pulley and affixed to the carriage are aligned along a common longitudinal centerline between the two spaced U-beams. A second cross member is likewise laterally joined to the frame in proximity to the entranceway. A winch is connected to an opposite end of the pull cable and configured to move the carriage and planar object through the longitudinal runways.

Planar object lifting apparatus

A shaped crystalline deodorant is made from mixture of a mineral salt and water which is heated above the melting point of the salt, placed in a mold having the desired shape, and crystalized after insertion of an internally threaded member into the mixture. The deodorant has an oval cross-sectional shape with the insert imbedded therewithin and is secured into a container. The container includes a threaded stem attached to the container for rotational movement which is translated to axial movement of the deodorant with respect to the container. The threaded stem cooperates with the internally threaded insert to allow the crystallized deodorant to be moved up or down within the container by rotating the threaded stem.

Method and apparatus for a wide stick crystalline deodorant

A remote control can signal equipment that handles a video or audio signal, such as a television. The remote control has a bar with a central longitudinal axis. The bar has a head and is sized to be manually gripped. A thumbswitch mounted at the head of the bar, is approximately aligned with the central longitudinal axis. Also, a signalling device is mounted on the bar for radiating a control signal to the equipment. A processor is coupled to the thumbswitch and the signalling device for commanding through the signalling device in response to a predetermined reciprocation of the thumbswitch an operational change in the equipment, which is unambiguously consummated without further manipulation of the remote control and independently of angular displacement of said central longitudinal axis. For example, the processor can signal the equipment to change channels in response to operation of the thumbswitch.

A motion monitor which detects respiration and/or cardiac activity of a human, particularly a sleeping human, has a mattress, for example, an air mattress, for supporting a sleeping human. The mattress has an interior cavity isolated from and at a pressure equal to or greater than ambient atmospheric pressure. A pressure transducer is connected with the interior cavity of the mattress and generates a signal representative of the pressure in the interior cavity. An indication unit is connected to the pressure transducer and presents a signal based on the output of the pressure transducer. This sleep monitor is useful for infants, particularly infants at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Motion monitor useful for sleeping humans

A combined oil filter/reservoir cartridge for an internal combustion engine mounted outboard of the engine for easy access. The device includes an oil filter and has sufficient capacity to hold all of the engine oil. An auxiliary oil pump is included to pump fresh oil from a new device into the engine and to pump the old oil into the reservoir. The device can then be demounted and the contents and cartridge recycled.

A sound absorbing panel structure is formed of a panel of sound absorbing material, such as a felt mat or fiberglass mat, and spaced apart, parallel strips of a decorative non-sound absorbing material attached to one side surface of the sound absorbing panel so that the sound absorbing panel is exposed in the area between the adjacent strips of decorative material.

Sound absorbing structure

A sound absorbing structure is formed of adjacent panels which provide narrow slots opening into first resonance cavities formed behind the panels. Support strips provide secondary cavities between adjacent first cavities to reduce acoustical coupling between adjacent first cavities. The resulting sound absorbing structure provides substantial sound absorption at frequencies of less than about 1,000 Hz.

The instant invention involves a sound absorbing structure which is formed from at least two adjacent panels which are assembled so as to provide a narrow slot of between about 1/16 and 3/4 inch between the panels. The slot opens into a resonance cavity formed by the panels, their support strips, and a bottom member. The resulting sound absorbing structure provides substantial sound absorption at frequencies of less than about 1000 Hz.

Sound absorbing structures

A physiological pressure measuring system usable in conjunction with an intravascular infusion line leading to a patient whose pressure is to be monitored. The system includes a detector having a transparent chamber interposed in the line and a flexible bulb mounted therein whose exterior is subjected to the fluid pressure in the chamber, the bulb interior communicating with a flexible pipe terminating in a hollow plug vented to the atmosphere whereby the bulb is caused to collapse when the infusion fluid pressure which reflects the physiologial pressure is greater than atmospheric. Associated with the detector is a fluid pressure transducer yielding a signal as a function of the applied pressure, the transducer input port being in the form of a tubular jack adapted to telescopically receive the plug. When the plug is inserted in the jack, a seal is effected to create a closed air column which exerts pressure on the transducer. The effective length of the column depends on the relative axial position of the plug; and as the plug is advanced into the jack, the column is shortened to thereby compress the air entrapped therein. A point is reached in the course of advance when the column pressure matches the chamber fluid pressure, limited further advance resulting only in dilation of the bulb without any change in column pressure. The transducer senses the matching column pressure to provide the desired physiological pressure reading.

Physiological pressure measuring system

An insulating window system is provided wherein a window track is secured on a frame outlining the window. The window track includes a pair of spaced jaws defining between them a channel with a semi-oval cross-section. A glazing frame having a base member with two outwardly extending arms for engaging the inside surface of the jaws, and securing the frame arm to the track. An insulating strip extends between the arms and fills the space not occupied by the arms when they engage the jaws within the channel. The glazing frame includes a pane holder which includes the base section of the jaws and a face section overlaying the back and connected thereto by an end section, all forming a glazing channel into which the glazing pane sets.

Insulating window system

A manifold valve assembly for selectively interconnecting a row of ports to control the flow of fluid in a group of lines coupled thereto. The assembly includes a valve block having a like row of cylinders formed therein which communicate at their lower ends with the row of ports. The upper ends of the cylinders are interconnected, whereby fluid admitted into any one cylinder flows into the other cylinders in the row. Supported coaxially within the cylinders is a corresponding row of expandable tubular nipples, the ends of the nipples in their unexpanded state reaching a first point. Projecting into the nipples are a group of push-button actuated rods. Each rod, when pushed in by its associated button causes the nipple to expand to reach a second point in the cylinder. A valve seat in each cylinder cooperates with the end of the nipple therein to cut off fluid flow in the cylinder when the nipple end reaches one of the points to engage the seat, flow being resumed when the nipple end is shifted toward the other point.

Manifold valve assembly

A manifold valve assembly for selectively interconnecting a row of ports to control the flow of fluid in the lines coupled thereto. The assembly includes a valve block in whose upper face is formed a shallow well. Extending from the well to a plane parallel to the lower face of the block is a row of cylinders whose lower ends define valve seats that communicate with ports projecting from the lower face. A channel indented in the well serves to laterally interconnect the mouths of the cylinders with each other. Seated in the well and sealing the mouths of the cylinders is a pad of elastomeric material from which is projected a row of hollow, axially-expandable nipples that extend into and are coaxially disposed within the cylinders, the nipples all having a normal length that falls short of the valve seats. Mounted above the valve block is an actuator block having a row of tubes therein in axial alignment with the cylinders. Supported in each tube is the retractable push rod of a spring-biased click mechanism. The lower end of each rod protrudes into a respective nipple, the upper end thereof being coupled to a normally-raised push-button. The arrangement is such that when a given button is pressed in, the push rod associated therewith is advanced axially to a degree limited by the click to cause the associated nipple to expand and engage the valve seat, thereby closing the valve. When this same button is again pressed in, the click is released to cause the rod to retract and thereby open the valve, the button then being returned to its raised position. Thus by operating the buttons, one may select the valves to be opened or closed and thereby connect the lines associated with the ports in any desired manner.

Apparatus is described for providing two signal paths which have a common phase response but dissimilar amplitude responses. Two signals applied to the circuit input terminals are independently filtered in amplitude. The two resulting filtered signals are combined preserving the relative phase difference between signals.

This invention relates to the television art. Specifically, apparatus for separating luminance and chroma information in a color video signal using comb filtering techniques is provided. Picture quality is enhanced by increasing frequency content while decreasing noise in the recovered chroma signals. Separation is achieved with a minimum compromise in vertical resolution.
