An adjustable foot pedal assembly for a vehicle, according to one disclosed embodiment, comprises a foot pedal supported by a base. The pedal is mounted in a position generally above the base, with the lower end of the pedal pivotally connected to the lower end of the base. The first end of a lever arm is pivotally mounted on the lower surface of the pedal and the second end of the lever arm is positioned for movement relative to the upper surface of the base when the pedal is pivoted toward and away from the base between a depressed position and an idle position. An adjustment mechanism may couple the upper end portion of the base to a wall of a vehicle and is configured to selectively vary the fore and aft position of the base and the pedal from the wall.

Adjustable vehicle throttle pedal and method

A stairway assembly is pivoted between deployed and stowed positions. The stairway in one form includes a sliding support from which the stairway is suspended at a location spaced from a stairway pivot. A link, which may be adjustable in length, couples the coupler to the stairway. A snubber is provided to limit vibration of the stairway when stowed. An actuator, which may comprise an electric motor, is positioned above and overlies a portion of a platform of the stairway. Extension and retraction of the actuator pivots the stairway between stowed and deployed positions.

Retractable stairway assembly for a vehicle

A method of controlling a retractable stairway assembly for a vehicle includes monitoring at least one vehicle status condition such as (a) whether the vehicle is stopped, (b) whether the parking brake is set, (c) whether the cab is tilted in excess of a threshold, and (d) whether excess current is being required by a motor used to shift the stairway between stowed and deployed positions in the event an electric motor is used for this purpose. In the event any of these monitored conditions are not in a predetermined state, deployment of the stairway from a stowed position is blocked. Deployment and stowing of the stairway may also be interrupted depending upon vehicle status and other conditions. Interior and exterior vehicle alarms may be activated depending on vehicle status conditions and the mode of operation of the stairway.

Method of controlling a retractable stairway assembly

A toggle switch handle for a toggle switch mounted to the dash of a truck consists in substantial part essentially of a resilient bendable material. The switch is generally spatulate in shape with a base, a distal end, rounded side edges and recessed or concave major opposed surfaces. The handle is elongated with a longitudinal axis. The handle has a stiffness in bending in response to a force applied at the distal end of the handle and in a direction perpendicular to longitudinal axis from twenty-five pounds to thirty pounds per inch at seventy-five degrees Fahrenheit and most preferably twenty-eight pounds per inch. The handle may be of an elastomeric material of a durometer of from 85 to 95, and most preferably about 90, on the Shore A scale measured at seventy-three degrees Fahrenheit. The handle is coupled to switch components by a lever. The extent to which the lever projects into the base of the handle is limited so that the lever has a minimal impact on the bendability of the toggle switch handle. During impact, such as may arise during a collision, the toggle switch handle bends to absorb shock arising from impact against the handle during the collision.
