A ceramic element for a sootblower element is disclosed in which the element is manufactured by winding a ceramic fiber around a mandrel and subsequently densifying the composite using a sol-gel process. Separate elements are coupled together using a ceramic coupling member. Ceramic nozzle bodies are inserted into the elements. The sootblower tubes disclosed herein can withstand greater temperatures and more corrosive environments than currently used metallic lance tubes, thus enabling the sootblower element to be permanently installed within a boiler and eliminating the need for a retracting element type sootblower.

Ceramic sootblower element

Water containing refractories which inhibit or eliminate the tendency of explosive spalling are provided by mixing solid organic fibers into the refractory mix. The refractory mix may be used in castables, plastics, ramming or gunning mixes or mortars.

Rapid-fire refractories

A fibrous refractory product adapted for use in contact with molten aluminum and its alloys consisting essentially of alumino-silicate fiber and kaolin clay in the metakaolin phase. The refractory product is readily machinable before firing.

Fibrous refractory products

A typical embodiment of the resinous foam sandwich construction that characterizes the invention has face sheets of fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin laminates. The foam core is a mixture of hollow glass spheres and resin, in which the resin in the core is the same as the resin used to form the face sheets.
