Disclosed is a range of resistor compositions which exhibit a stability of less than 0.5 percent change in resistance after 2,000 hours at 175.degree. C., and yet which also have a temperature coefficient of resistance less than + or -25 ppm per degree Celsius. These compositions all comprise alloys of nickel, chromium and silicon, within a selected range. Also, disclosed is a method of manufacturing these compositions on a reproducible basis. The method includes the provision of a first silicon target and a second nickel chromium target and the subjecting of these targets to a sputtering gas and electrical potential such that the aforementioned silicon, nickel, chromium alloys are formed.

Resistor composition and method of manufacture thereof

A process for enhancing the adhesion of coatings applied to the surfaces of glass-ceramic articles. The surface area to be coated is roughened before the article is completely cerammed. When the article is subjected to elevated temperatures for the purpose of converting the green glass to a glass-ceramic, flaws produced by the abrasion step are healed. The coating can be applied before or after the ceramming step.

Coating glass-ceramic surfaces

This invention is related to the production of glasses having compositions within the copper and/or silver-halide-phosphate field, wherein at least one halide is present selected from the group of fluoride, chloride, bromide, and iodide, such glasses exhibiting softening points below about 400.degree. C., coefficients of thermal expansion (25.degree.-300.degree. C.) in excess of about 180.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree.C., high electrical conductivity, and electrochromic behavior. The copper-containing glasses may also demonstrate thermochromic properties.

Cuprous copper and/or silver halophosphate glasses

There has been provided a concentrating solar receiver of the type including a closed envelope having a window and reflective portions. A photocell is disposed at a focal zone for the reflector. Heat and/or electricity may be produced from received solar energy and the envelope is manufactured in the configuration of a specially formed bulb preferably having a thin wall glass structure.

Disclosed is a resistor comprising a nonconductive substrate on which is disposed a rectangularly-shaped coating of resistive material having a negative TCR. Oppositely disposed along the longer sides of the coating is a pair of elongated, parallel strips of resistive material having a positive TCR. Electrical connection is made to the opposed ends of the coating and to an end of each strip. The strips and electrical connections are so disposed that at low temperatures, current flow is predominantly across a relatively wide, short path in the coating between the strips, and at higher temperatures, current flow is predominantly along a longer, narrower path in the coating which is parallel to the strips.
