A unitary piston cap and boot seal for use in a medication infustion system is disclosed which is mounted on a rigid piston contained in a cylinder disposed in a cassette. The piston cap and boot seal, which are made of a flexible, elastomeric material, effectively both form the pumping element disposed in the cylinder, and prevent contamination of the pump through use of a rolling seal. The device may be sterilized by gas, since a tortuous path affording passage to gas is included in the retaining skirt mounted around the outer diameter of the pump cylinder.

A liquid meter assembly for collecting, metering and monitoring liquid is disclosed. The assembly comprises a container for collecting the liquid, an electrically powered strain gauge suspension device for supporting the container and for determining the weight of the liquid collected in the container and a handle on the container for interconnecting with the strain gauge suspension device. A length of tubing is attached to the container and adapted for interconnecting with the source of the liquid. A tubing support system is included on the strain gauge suspension device for fixedly supporting the tubing to substantially inhibit influence on weight determination due to any movement thereon. A power supply is included in the assembly for supplying power to the strain gauge suspension device.

Heat exchanger housing assembly

A thermodilution injectate assembly which includes a length of flexible tubing for introducing fluid from a solution container to the assembly. An insulated container which holds a heat exchange medium and into which is positioned a substantially flat plate heat exchanger. The heat exchanger includes an inlet port and an outlet port and a fluid-flow path therebetween, which path provides a heat exchange relationship between fluid flowing through the path and the heat exchange medium. A dual directional valve is connected to the outlet port of the heat exchanger and to the solution container. A three-ported stopcock is in fluid-flow communication with the dual directional valve. A syringe is connected to a port on the three-ported stopcock and a length of flexible tubing is connected to a port on the three-ported stopcock for delivering the cooled fluid to a patient for monitoring the cardiac output. The flexible tubing can be connected to a catheter which is inserted in the patient, which catheter includes a temperature probe.

Thermodilution injectate assembly

A flexible transfer set for filling multiple syringes from a single bottle of medical liquid, as in a hospital pharmacy. The transfer set includes a flexible tube with a bottle connecting spike at one end and a syringe coupler at an opposite end. This syringe coupler includes a longitudinally collapsible valve that opens upon insertion of a blunt syringe tip and closes upon removal of such syringe tip. An external skirt on the coupler protects an entrance to the valve area.

Extension transfer set

A transfer device for charging a series of hypodermic syringes with medicament from a vial, such as in hospital pharmacies. The transfer device includes a valved spike with a syringe coupler rigidly supported on the spike. Contained within the syringe coupler is a longitudinally collapsible valve that opens upon insertion of a blunt syringe tip into the coupler and closes upon removal of such syringe tip. A protective skirt on the coupler has snap lugs for securing the transfer device to the vial.

A hypodermic syringe with a snap fitted handle grip retained on the syringe by a cam lug. A spring biased plunger of the syringe is attached to a metering rod extending longitudinally along side the plunger and through a guide passage in the handle grip. This metering rod has a circumferentially gripping spring stop that is manually slidable along the metering rod to set a particular dosage for the pumping syringe. A dispensing end of the syringe is connected to a double check valve system which is in turn connected to a reservoir container. This syringe pumping system is useful in hospital pharmacies for filling a series of smaller syringes or vials with metered dosages of diluent of medicament from a larger bulk reservoir container. It is also useful for hospital procedures, such as a thoracentesis, or other industrial or laboratory uses.
