A mid-string voltage sensor is disposed in proximity to a storage-battery string and determines an error signal between the expected mid-string voltage and the actual mid-string voltage to aid in detecting faults in one or more of the batteries of the string. Each sensor is connected to or close to the battery string terminals and to a terminal at the midpoint of the group of batteries connected in series. The arrangement suppresses errors due to common-impedance coupling, and the measured voltages are decoupled from the battery system, prior to determining the error. A fractional error voltage is derived using a logarithmic ratio amplifier so that the error signal determination is performed at the sensor, with the resultant error signal suitable for coupling to a battery health monitor.

Battery-string midpoint voltage measurement apparatus and method

An apparatus, system and method of controlling the supply of DC current from a power source to an electrical load provides for a protective circuit that senses the characteristics of the connected load prior to permitting the enablement of a switch connecting the supply and the load. A voltage arising from applying a constant current to the load during a time period is compared with a predetermined threshold determined by the intended capacity of the switch so that, when closed, the current through the switch is compatible with the switch. The protective circuit may be used in conjunction with semiconductor switches, electromechanical contactors or relays. A plurality of such devices may be incorporated in an enclosure and controlled by logic so as to manage the supply of power from a power source to a plurality of electrical loads having differing power requirements.

Direct current circuit switch

An apparatus, system and method of efficiently configuring a power distribution system includes the provision of a dual-bus power distribution assembly, each bus of which may be connected to power sources and where the circuit breakers are adapted such that power from either of the two buses can be routed to an electrical load to provide redundant or non-redundant power, as required. Each circuit breaker position is capable of being configured to connect between either of the two buses and an individual load equipment supply bus. The circuit breaker may be a plug-in type where one of the terminals is adapted by a part that may be installed in one of two orientations. In the first orientation a first bus is connected to the individual load equipment supply bus and in the second orientation the second bus is connected to the individual load equipment supply bus.

Redundant bus circuit breaker adapter assembly and power distribution system

A system and method for monitoring the status of a system of battery strings is described. The battery string current is measured by a current sensor urged into contact with a metallic element in which the battery string current is flowing. The time history of the battery string current and voltage is interpreted to determine whether the battery string is discharging, charging or in a fully charged state. A moving average current in the charging state is used to establish a threshold for determining whether a thermal runaway condition exists. The moving average is maintained at the value that existed at a time when the battery string has been disconnected from the system current bus.

Battery system and management method

Storage batteries connected in series in an uninterruptable or back-up power supply system may have voltage potential differences between exposed terminals or conductors that exceed safety limits. A demountable insulating shield having apertures may be positioned so that the series string may be broken into a plurality of series sub-strings having a lesser potential difference has a cover over the aperture through which the series string configuration may be connected and disconnected. The cover may be an insulating material removably fastened to the insulating shield or a sliding cover that is captivated to the insulating shield. When the series string has been divided in to the sub-strings, the insulating shield may be demounted from the structure housing the batteries so that the batteries or their connections may be serviced.

Battery system safety shield

An equipment cabinet having a corrugation in the side panels is disclosed. The panels are affixed to a base by bolting or welding so as to be disposed opposite each other. Holes are provided in opposing surfaces the so that cross members may be secured in a position between the opposing side panels of the cabinet to form a support structure for equipment, such as batteries. Equipment may also be attached using mounting brackets. An equipment retaining bracket includes a retaining cross member, an L-shaped bracket and a bolt to joint the retaining cross member and the L-shaped bracket so as to secure the battery in two dimensions. Retaining brackets may be provided at the front and the rear surfaces of the equipment and, in cooperation with the cross members, retain the equipment in the cabinet.

Battery system safety shield and method

A system and method for monitoring the status of a system of battery strings is described. The system includes a current sensor for each of the battery strings, and a controller configured to compute the average current from the measured currents. The state of the battery system is determined as being fully charged, discharging or charging, and the individual battery string currents are compared with the average measured current to determine if the currents are within a threshold value. An alarm indication is provided when one or more of the currents exceeds a threshold difference. The system may provide a local indication of status and may also interface with a communications network to provide for remote monitoring.

A system and method for monitoring the status of a system of battery strings is described. The system includes a current sensor for each of the battery strings, and a controller configured to compare the measured current with criteria to determine whether the battery is in a thermal runaway state. Prior to entering the thermal runaway state the battery current characteristics may indicate other less serious states. Warning messages are provided for selected events, and the battery string is disconnected from the remainder of the system when a thermal runaway state is encountered. The system may provide a local indication of status and may also interface with a communications network to provide for remote monitoring.

A DC power supply system in which the resistance of a battery is measured. The voltage of the DC power supply is reduced such that the battery supplies some current to the load, and the voltage and current are measured. The voltage of the DC power supply is further reduced such that the battery supplies increased power to the load, and the voltage and current are measured. A resistance value is computed, and may be compared with various pre-established criteria. The battery resistance may also be measured by comparing the charging time of a known resistive-capacitive circuit with the charging time established at a prior measurement epoch.

Battery string performance measurement

Disclosed is a method for distributing customer contacts to a transaction processing entity of a transaction processing system. The method includes predicting a time for assignment of a customer contact to a transaction processing entity in the transaction processing system. In an alternative embodiment, the method also includes finding a transaction processing entity that is available to process the customer contact and routing the customer contact to the found transaction processing entity.
