A phacoemulsification cutting tip, including a rigid tubular portion and a flexible and expandable tip portion located distal to the rigid tubular portion. The flexible and expandable tip portion presents an axial length and an unexpanded radius and is formed such that the axial length shortens while the unexpanded radius increases when differential pressure due to an occlusion of an opening of the flexible tip portion exists.

Flexible/expandable phacoemulsification tip

A self-contained ocular surgery instrument, including a power module having a body presenting a mating coupler and including a compressed gas supply; a fluid reservoir; an aspiration pump; an aspirated material reservoir and a control panel. The mating coupler is structured to receive and couple to at least one module that facilitates performance of an eye surgery task. The compressed gas supply is coupled to the aspiration pump and the aspirated material reservoir is in fluid communication with the aspiration pump to receive aspirated material from the mating coupler. The fluid reservoir is in fluid communication with the mating coupler such that fluid is supplied under pressure to the mating coupler and thus to the at least one module that facilitates performance of an eye surgery task. The control panel is in controlling communication with the compressed gas supply, the aspiration pump and the aspirated material reservoir.

Self-contained ocular surgery instrument

A method of measuring working distance between a handheld digital device and eyes of a user, including capturing an image of at least eyes of a user via an onboard camera of the handheld digital device while the user is viewing a display of the handheld digital device and comparing an apparent angular size of a structure of the eyes or face of the user to a previously captured image of the structure of the eyes or the face that was taken in the presence of an object of known size. The method further includes calculating a working distance based on the apparent angular size of the structure of the eyes or the face; and saving at least the working distance to memory or reporting out the calculated working distance on the display. A handheld digital device programmed with an algorithm to perform the method is also included.

Application to determine reading/working distance

A phacoemulsification tip, including an aspiration tube presenting a cutting tip at a distal end. The aspiration tube has a tube wall presenting an internal face and an external face. The internal face supports at least one internally extending internal ridge. The at least one internal ridge presents an internal distal face, an internal proximal face and an internal apex. The internal distal face meets the internal face at an acute angle measured internally. The at least one internal ridge is structured to engage lens fragments separated from a crystalline lens to enhance proximal movement of the lens fragments and to inhibit distal movement of the lens fragments through the aspiration tube.

Phacoemulsification tip

A device and method for marking corneal tissue is disclosed. The device includes an ink reservoir portion and an ink resist portion. The ink reservoir portion is annular in shape and the ink resist portion occupies a central area within the annular shape. The ink reservoir portion and the ink resist portion are sized and structured to interface with the central cornea and to apply ink to the corneal tissue. The method includes applying ink to the cornea in an annular pattern.
