A process is disclosed for producing reinforced twin-sheet thermoformed articles comprising the steps of heating first and second sheets of thermoplastic material; forming the sheets in molds; heating a reinforcing insert of thermoplastic material; placing the heated insert on the first sheet in its mold at the location to be reinforced; pressing the second sheet into contact with the heated first sheet and the heated insert to form the insert between the sheets so that a fusion of the thermoplastic sheets and the insert takes place to produce a reinforced section of the article having a desired shape and thickness. Alternative processes are disclosed wherein a heated quantity of thermoplastic liquid material is extruded or injected between the first and second sheets within the first and second molds either by inserting the liquid material before the molds are closed or by injecting it through one of the molds. Also disclosed are twin-sheet thermoformed articles with reinforced sections which are thicker than the combined thicknesses of the two thermoformed sheets at a particular location. The articles may advantageously be reinforced with plastic identical to the plastic of the two sheets. The articles are also easily recycled as they are entirely plastic with no non-plastic matter included.

Twin-sheet thermoforming process with shell reinforcement

A process is disclosed for producing reinforced twin-sheet thermoformed articles comprising the steps of heating first and second sheets of thermoplastic material; forming the sheets in molds; heating a reinforcing insert of thermoplastic material; placing the heated insert on the first sheet in its mold at the location to be reinforced; pressing tile second sheet into contact with the heated first sheet and the heated insert to form the insert between tile sheets so that a fusion of the thermoplastic sheets and tile insert takes place to produce a reinforced section of the article having a desired shape and thickness. Alternative processes are disclosed wherein a heated quantity of thermoplastic liquid material is extruded or injected between the first and second sheets within the first and second molds either by inserting the liquid material before the molds are closed or by injecting it through one of the molds. Also disclosed are twin-sheet thermoformed articles with reinforced sections which are thicker than the combined thicknesses of the two thermoformed sheets at a particular location. The articles may advantageously be reinforced with plastic identical to the plastic of the two sheets. The articles are also easily recycled as they are entirely plastic with no non-plastic matter included.

Twin-sheet thermo-forming process with injected reinforcement

A plastic pallet has a twin sheet thermoformed upper deck reinforced with a tubular metal substrate. Injection molded plastic octagonal posts have support member walls which are positioned beneath reinforced portions of the top deck. The posts also have a sleeve with a central bolt hole which is parallel to the support member walls. A twin sheet thermoformed lower deck is spaced from the upper deck by the posts and receives the posts in recessed pockets. Plastic bolts are inserted through the top deck, each post, and the bottom deck and are held in place by plastic T-nuts. A sawtooth parting line in the twin-sheet thermoforming molds provide accurate alignment and molding of the pallet parts.

A plastic pallet has a twin sheet thermoformed upper deck reinforced with a tubular metal substrate. Injection molded plastic octagonal posts have support member walls which are positioned beneath reinforced portions of the top deck. The posts also have a sleeve with a central bolt hole which is parallel to the support member walls. A twin sheet thermoformed lower deck is spaced from the upper deck by the posts and receives the posts in recessed pockets. Plastic bolts are inserted through the top deck, each post, and the bottom deck and are held in place by plastic T-nuts. The pallet is sealed against entry of liquid into the interior space of the pallet and may be stored on a flat surface or elevated on a rack.

Golf cart roof

A motorized golf cart having a double wall thermoformed canopy fixedly connected to and supported over a chassis. The canopy has a bottom wall with fastener holes passing therethrough. A frame is provided to support the canopy having a front generally rectangular member and a rear inverted U-shaped member with apertures for passage of bolts therethrough. Blind fasteners are positioned in the bottom wall fastener holes and bolts passed through the frame apertures and into the blind fasteners to securely mount the canopy to the frame.

A twin-sheet thermoformed thermoplastic aquatic biomass containment barrier with reinforced hinges is disclosed having a formed first extended linear thermoplastic sheet member which is fused to a formed second linear extended thermoplastic sheet member of substantially the same dimensions as the first member to form a composite unit member having two ends and air pockets formed between the two sheets to give buoyancy to the segment. Reinforcing thermoplastic inserts are located between the first and second members at each end of the composite member. Each insert has portions defining a central pinhole and is fused to the first and second members to form reinforced hinged sections. The hinged segments may be connected by pins to form a floating aquatic biomass containment barrier cell or a network of cells. Such a network is effective for the growth and harvesting of small aquatic plants such as the duckweed plant.

A reinforced twin-sheet thermoformed pallet is disclosed which has a substantially planar load-bearing member which is formed from an upper sheet of thermoplastic material and a lower sheet of thermoplastic material located generally in fixed parallel relationship to each other. A plurality of concave depressions in the load-bearing member form feet which depend from the load-bearing member. Each foot is formed as a downwardly depending portion of each of the two sheets of material joined together. Each foot has an inner foot floor formed from the upper sheet and an outer foot floor formed from the lower sheet. A quantity of reinforcing thermoplastic material is located between the inner and outer walls of each foot and is fused to the upper and lower sheets to form an integral foot floor which is substantially parallel to the load-bearing member. The thickness of the foot floor is substantially greater than the combined thicknesses of the upper and lower sheets. Preferably the upper and lower sheets and the reinforcing thermoplastic material are all composed of the same thermoplastic material. The pallet has reinforced feet of substantially increased thickness which extend the usable life of the pallet. This pallet, being composed of a single plastic material, may be economically crushed and recycled.

Plastic reinforced thermoformed pallet

A collapsible container having a rigid construction including a base and upstanding sides which can be disassembled and stacked upon the base for storage. The base is provided with a generally flat supporting surface with a plurality of legs with mortises arranged to extend downward from the planar base support surface to receive and lock tenons attached to upstanding sides. The plurality of legs are spaced about the periphery of the base so that a container in either an assembled or collapsed position may be easily supported by a forklift or other such material-handling unit. Upstanding sides with tenons inserted into mortise elements of the unit are held in substantially erect position with the edges of the upstanding sides having tongue and groove connectors. Two of the sides are provided with grooves at the edges with the other two sides providing tongue elements at the edges and receivable into the grooves to provide a rigid and positive corner construction. Locking corner caps are attached to the upper edge of one of the sides of either the tongue or groove side. The locking L-shaped corner caps engages the upper edge of two corner sections of the adjacent side and lock the two sides together. The corner caps further includes a flange to engage legs of another container for vertical stacking. The upstanding sides of the container are vertically ribbed and may be re-enforced to increase the columnar strength of the unit.

A pickup truck cargo bed liner is disclosed which is vacuum formed of unitary plastic and adapted to fit within and protect the contours of a pickup truck cargo bed. The liner has a bottom wall, wheel wells, and a front wall and side walls connected to and extending upwardly from the bottom wall, the front wall being connected to the side walls. An elastomer material having an effectively high co-efficient of friction is co-formed with and integrally adhered to the plastic forming the liner to provide an anti-slip surface thereon for restraining movement of cargo on the liner.

A pickup truck cargo bed liner is disclosed which is particularly constructed for efficiency in shipment and storage, and so that the liner can easily be installed in trucks having top caps. The truck bed liner has a liner bottom wall adapted to fit on and substantially cover the full width of the truck cargo bed floor, the liner bottom wall having a width substantially as great as the width of the truck rear opening. Two liner wheel wells are formed in the liner bottom wall at opposite sides thereof and adapted to accommodate the truck cargo bed rear wheel wells. A liner front wall is connected to and extends upwardly from the liner bottom wall, the liner front wall having an upper margin adapted to fit snugly against the truck cargo bed front wall. Two liner side walls are connected to the liner bottom wall and wheel wells and the liner front wall at opposite sides thereof, the liner front wall substantially limiting the distance between the liner side walls at the front end of the liner. Each liner side wall projects upwardly from the liner bottom wall and adjacent wheel well and has an upper margin which fits snugly against the corresponding truck cargo bed wall beneath the corresponding truck cargo bed side rail, thereby providing an optimum volume of usable cargo space. The liner side walls are inclined outwardly from the liner bottom wall and permit multiple nesting of identical truck cargo bed liners in space efficient relation wherein the bottom walls of the nested liners are in proximity.

Truck cargo bed liner

An air deflector for trailers having a forwardly facing front wall. The air deflector includes a body adapted to extend between the side edges of the trailer front wall and from the top edge thereof to a selected location on the front wall remote from the top edge. The body projects forwardly from the front wall with the forwardly facing surface of the body being generally convex. At least one air vent is located at the bottom margin of the body and is adapted to admit air between the body and the front wall of the trailer. In certain embodiments a resilient recoil rib is attached to the body, extending generally parallel and adjacent to the rearwardly facing surface of the body and between the top and bottom margins of the body. The recoil rib is adapted to increase the body's ability to resist deformation from force applied to the forwardly facing surface of the body and, upon release of such force, to aid the body to resume its original shape.
