A machine forms a whip from a length of cable. The machine includes a clamping assembly, a notching assembly, and a cutting assembly. The clamping assembly includes a pad which can be move into and out of a cable travel space. The notching assembly includes a notching saw which cuts an outer jacket of the cable in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. Movement of the pad also causes movement of the notching saw to move into the cable travel space or into a raised position. The cutting assembly includes a cutting tool which transversely cuts the conductors of the cable.

A fish tape case is configured to house a fish tape in accordance with some example embodiments is provided. The fish tape includes a shell having a rotatable tray therein. A fish tape extends through openings in the shell and the tray. The fish tape case does not include a handle.

A control device according to some embodiments of the disclosure includes one or more motors directed by the control device to form whip(s) from a length of a cable by causing the cutting of the cable in accordance with specifications based at least in part on whip information. An interface communicates the whip information between the control device and a user device.

An ergonomic fish tape configured to house a fish tape in accordance with some example embodiments is provided. The fish tape includes a shell having an upper base wall, a lower base wall, an inner side wall extending between inner perimeters of the base walls and forming a central aperture through the shell, an outer side wall extending between outer perimeters of the base walls and defining an outer diameter of the shell, the walls defining a cavity therein, and a storage tray within the cavity. An opening through which the fish tape can pass is provided through the outer side wall. The fish tape case does not include a handle, and the walls of the shell are devoid of surfaces which would indicate or suggest to a user as to how to grip the fish tape case.

An assembly includes a punch and a clamping assembly. The punch includes a body having a front end and a rear end. The front end has a cutting edge. A passageway extends through the body and a counterbore is provided proximate to a second end of the body. The clamping assembly includes first and second jaws pivotally attached to each other. Each jaw includes a main body having a nose extending from a front surface thereof. The nose has an outer surface which has a diameter which is smaller than the outer diameter of the main body. When the clamping assembly is mated with the punch, the noses seat within the counterbore, and the front surfaces of the main bodies engage against the rear end of the body of the punch.

A die is configured for use with a punch capable of piercing and cutting a workpiece. The die includes a base wall having a perimeter, an outer surface and an inner surface, a depending wall extending from the perimeter, a passageway extending through the base wall, and a central axis extending through the passageway. The outer surface of the base wall is perpendicular to the central axis. The inner surface of the base wall has a first portion which is angled relative to the central axis at a first angle which is greater than 90 degrees, and a second portion which is angled relative to the central axis at a second angle which is greater than 90 degrees. The first and second angles are different. The first portion extends from the depending wall to the second portion. The second portion extends from the first portion to the passageway. The second portion engages the punch when the punch is fully inserted into the die.

A cutting tool according to some embodiments of the disclosure includes a stationary handle and a movable handle pivotally attached thereto, a blade receiving gear mounted on the stationary handle, a blade removably mounted to the blade receiving gear, and a spring-loaded slide plate mounted to the blade receiving gear for holding the blade in the blade receiving gear. The blade seats within a notch of the blade receiving gear and the slide plate engages with a notch in the blade. The slide plate can be removed without the use of tools from engagement with the blade to allow user to easily remove the blade from the cutting tool.

A clamping assembly includes a first jaw having a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed thereon, a second jaw having a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed thereon, and a spring provided between the first and second jaws. The jaws are pivotable relative to each other. The jaws are attached to a draw stud. The draw stud is formed from an elongated cylinder which has a conventional thread form formed on one end thereof and a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed on the other end thereof. The alternating grooves and lands formed on the jaws mesh with the alternating grooves and lands formed on the draw stud to mate the jaws with the draw stud.

An assembly includes a die and a punch which cut a hole in a workpiece. The die has a base wall having outer and inner surfaces and a passageway extending therethrough, and a wall extending from the base wall. The inner surface of the base wall has at least one portion which is angled relative to a central axis of the die. The punch includes a body having a bore therethrough, a leading edge on the body which is capable of piercing and cutting a workpiece, and cutting edges on the body for cutting a hole in the workpiece. The leading edge has inclined surfaces between the bore and the piercing points which engage with the portion of the inner surface of the die.

A punch assembly includes a punch, a sleeve, a draw stud and a die. The punch has a punch profile which provides a cutting edge that has a uniform 'sharpness' along entire perimeter of the punch. The punch assembly provides additional punch-to-die clearance over what was done in the prior art. This reduces excessive punching forces which result from axial deflection of the draw stud and 'tipping' of a large diameter punch as the draw stud deflects under a load.

A punch assembly includes a punch, a sleeve, a draw stud and a die. The sleeve adds rigidity to the draw stud, thereby reducing elastic deflection of the draw stud, reducing bending moment on the draw stud, reducing punching force, and extending the punch, draw stud and die fatigue life. The sleeve also aids in axial alignment of the punch, die and workpiece with a pilot hole drilled through a workpiece.

An assembly includes a quick-release head, a tail piece and a flexible metal rod. The tail piece includes a shaft and a male coupler formed of a head, body, and flute. At least a portion of the male coupler head has a reduced outer dimension relative to an outer dimension of the body. When the male coupler is mounted in a second quick-release head or drill, a clearance space is provided between the reduced outer dimension portion and the second quick-release head or drill. During use, the assembly may undergo bending which results in significant forces applied in particular to the male coupler head. By providing the clearance space, these forces are predominantly shifted to the male coupler body, thereby reducing the likelihood that the male coupler head will shear from the remainder of the male coupler.

A hole saw includes a depth stop for limiting the depth of penetration of the hole saw into a workpiece. The blade of the hole saw includes a plurality of slots, one of which is used to receive the depth stop. The depth stop is mounted to the blade by positioning a portion of the depth stop within the slot and sliding the depth stop from an unsecured position to a secured position. Once in the secured position, a locking member is moved within the depth stop to secure the depth stop in place. In use, the blade is advanced through the workpiece until the depth stop contacts the proximal surface of the workpiece.

An auger bit includes a shaft having a central axis, a cutting insert mounted to said shaft, and a feed screw that is separate from the cutting insert and which is mounted to the shaft. The cutting insert and the feed screw are engaged with each other. A single locking member, such as a set screw, secures the feed screw member to the shaft, and thereby secures the cutting insert to the shaft. If the feed screw or the cutting insert become worn, feed screw or the cutting insert can be replaced.

A spiral drill bit for forming holes of a variety of sizes has a main body which provides first and second helical grooves. First and second flutes extend along the length of the main body to provide first and second helical groove segments. Cutting segments are provided between the helical groove segments. The method for forming the spiral drill bit includes turning the helical groove segments onto a round stock. An axial clearance and an initial diametral clearance are provided upon turning the helical grooves. A grinding process is used to form a radial clearance and a final diametral clearance. The reduction to the amount of grinding required to form the spiral drill bit results in a reduction to the cost of production and a reduction in the time necessary to produce the spiral drill bit.
