Low overbased alkaline earth metal alkylaryl sulfonate having a Total Base Number of from about 2 to about 30, a dialkylate content of 0% to about 25% and a monoalkylate content of about 75% to about 90% or more, wherein the alkylaryl moiety is alkyltoluene or alkylbenzene in which the alkyl group is a C -C branched chain alkyl group derived from a propylene oligomer are useful as lubricating oil additives.

Low overbased alkylaryl sulfonates

Mixture of alkyl phenyl sulfonates of alkaline earth metals having: (a) from 20% to 70% by weight of a linear mono alkyl phenyl sulfonate in which the linear mono alkyl substituent contains from 14 to 40 carbon atoms, preferably from 20 to 24 carbon atoms, and the mole % of the phenyl sulfonate radical fixed on position 1 or 2 of the linear alkyl chain is between 10% and 25%, preferably between 13% and 20%, and (b) from 30% to 80% by weight of a branched mono alkyl phenyl sulfonate in which the branched mono alkyl substituent contains from 14 to 18 carbon atoms.

Mixture of alkyl-phenyl-sulfonates of alkaline earth metals, its application as an additive for lubricating oil, and methods of preparation

An additive useful in a marine lubricating oil is produced by reacting at elevated temperatures in the presence of at least one light hydrocarbon solvent and promoter: an alkyl oxy aromatic sulfonate; an alkaline earth metal base; carbon dioxide; and an acid component, such as carboxylic acid, an acid anhydride, an acid choride, or ester thereof. If the alkyl oxy aromatic sulfonate is in the acidic form, then the acid component is in the acidic form. If the alkyl oxy aromatic sulfonate is in the neutralized form, then the acid component is in the neutralized form. If the alkyl oxy aromatic sulfonate is in the overbased form, then the acid component is either in the acidic form or in the neutralized form.

2-Haloalkyl-3-oxo-4-substituted quinazolines represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkyl substituted with one to three of the same or different halogens, phenyl or phenyl substituted with 1 to 3 of the same or different substituents selected from a group consisting of lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, nitro, cyano, or lower alkyl substituted with one to three of the same or different halogens, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or lower alkyl substituted with one to three of the same or different halogens, Y.sub.1, Y.sub.2, Y.sub.3 and Y.sub.4 are independently selected from a group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, nitro, cyano, or lower alkyl substituted with one to three of the same or different halogens and X is fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, cyano, lower alkoxy, thiocyano and ##STR2## where R.sup.3 and R.sup.2 are the same or different lower alkyl possess fungicidal and algicidal activity.

Algicidal and fungicidal 2-haloalkyl-3-oxo-4-substituted quinazoline

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein Het is a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic ring containing 1 to 2 ring nitrogen atoms and the remaining ring atoms carbon atoms optionally substituted with 1 to 2 substituents independently selected from halo, nitro, trihalomethyl, lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, or lower alkoxy of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R is alkyl of 1 to 7 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms, lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, all optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms; and a is 0 or 1 are fungicidal and insecticidal, with the proviso that a ring nitrogen is not bonded to the hydroxamic acid ##STR2## moiety.

Fungicidal insecticidal and acaricidal tin salts of heterocyclic

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms or substituted aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from lower alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen, trihalomethyl, and nitro; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and R.sup.2 is lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, lower cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, aralkyl of 7 to 11 carbon atoms or aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms. The present invention is also directed to the associated compositions and methods of use comprising those compounds, which are fungicidal and in some cases insecticidal.

Fungicidal benzylthiostannanes

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein W is aryl of 6 to 12 carbon atoms, substituted aryl of 6 to 12 carbon atoms substituted with 1 to 3 substituents independently selected from halogen, nitro, lower alkoxy of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, lower alkylthio of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; lower cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms; or substituted lower cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms substituted with 1 to 3 lower alkyl groups; Z is a direct link, lower alkylene of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or lower alkenylene of 2 to 6 carbon atoms or benzyl; R is phenyl, or lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R.sup.1 is phenyl, or lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, lower cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, either optionally substituted with 1 to 3 independently selected halogen atoms, are useful as pesticides.

Pesticidal tin salts of hydroxamic acids

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; alkyl-thioalkylene of 2 to 5 carbon atoms; aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; aralkyl of 7 to 12 carbon atoms; arylthioalkyl of 7 to 11 carbon atoms; or substituted aryl, substituted aralkyl or substituted arylthioalkyl each substituted with 1 to 3 substituents independently selected from halo, nitro, lower alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or lower alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 is lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, lower cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl; and R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently hydrogen, lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or phenyl, are pesticidal.

Pesticidal tin amidoximes

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Z is sulfur or oxygen; R is alkyl of 1 to 7 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms, lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbons, all optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms; a is 0 or 1; b is 0, 1, or 2; X is independently halo, nitro, trihalomethyl, lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, or lower alkoxy of 1 to 3 carbon atoms are useful as fungicides and insecticides.

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is sulfur or oxygen; R.sup.1 is lower alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 is lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R.sup.3 is lower alkylthio having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, are active as insecticides.

Pesticidal

Oxadiazole compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is sulfur or oxygen; Y is sulfur or oxygen; R.sub.1 is methyl, ethyl isopropyl or cyclopropyl; and R.sub.2 is ethyl or isopropyl, provided that when R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl, R.sub.2 is not ethyl, are effective as corn root worm insecticides.

Insecticidal 3-alkyl-5-(alkoxy- or alkylthio-phosphynyl or

O-(N-alkoxy-substituted-benzimidoyl)-phosphorus esters and thioesters and thioesters of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is sulfur or oxygen; R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkynyl, or benzyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogen atoms; R.sub.2 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or lower alkylthio; R.sub.3 is lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, lower alkylamino or phenyl; and R.sub.4 is hydrogen, cyano, trifluoromethyl, halogen, carboxyalkyl or nitro, and Z is hydrogen, cyano, trifluoromethyl, carboxyalkyl, nitro, S(O).sub.n R.sub.5 or SO.sub.2 NR.sub.6 R.sub.7 where n is 1 or 2, R.sub.5 is lower alkyl and R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl; provided that when R.sub.1 is lower alkyl and R.sub.3 is alkoxy, then R.sub.4 and Z are not both hydrogen or if R.sub.4 is hydrogen, Z is not nitro; and provided further that if R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, R.sub.2 is alkyl or alkoxy and R.sub.3 is alkoxy, then if Z is hydrogen or nitro, R.sub.4 is not nitro or halogen, are insecticidal.

Pesticidal O-(N-alkoxy-substituted-benzimidoyl)-phosphorus esters and

O-(N-alkoxy-aliphatic hydroxamate)-phosphorus esters and thioesters of the formula: ##STR1## wherein W is lower alkyl, lower cycloalkyl, lower aralkyl optionally substituted with 1 or 2 halogens, lower alkenyl, trihalomethyl or lower haloalkenyl; X is sulfur or oxygen; R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower haloalkenyl, lower alkynyl or benzyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogens; R.sub.2 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or lower alkylthio; and R.sub.3 is lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, lower alkylamino or phenyl, provided that when W is trihalomethyl, R.sub.3 is not lower alkoxy, exhibit insecticidal activity.

Pesticidal O-(N-alkoxy-aliphatic hydroxamate)-phosphorus esters and

N-substituted-3-nitro-benzylamines have been found to be fungicidally effective, particularly against Tomato Early Blight and Bean Powdery Mildew.

N-Substituted 3-nitro-benzylamines

A method for killing grubs which comprises applying to the soil habitat of the grubs an insecticidally effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and X, Y, Z and V are sulfur or oxygen.
