Differential rate screening processes and apparatuses for continuously screening a feed of particulate material having particles distributed among a plurality of substreams each of a different size class. A stream of feed is separated by causing part of each of at least two undersize substreams to pass through the apertures of a screening member at partial flow rates providing control over the size distribution of a throughs stream. The relative flow rates at which the undersize substreams pass into the throughs stream is controlled to provide substantially a preselected size distribution in a particulate product stream.

Differential rate screening

Disclosed are differential rate screening processes and apparatuses for continuously screening undersize particles in different size classes to different degrees of incompletion to provide a product having a preselected distribution of particle sizes substantially different from the distribution of particle sizes in a feed of particulate material. An input stream of feed material is introduced onto a screening member having apertures of sufficient size to pass a plurality of size classes, and is separated into at least a throughs stream and one other stream by causing undersize classes to pass through screen apertures and into a throughs stream in proportions relative to one another substantially different from the proportions of the same undersize classes relative to one another in the input stream. The overs, throughs or both from one rate screening member may be introduced as an input stream onto another rate screening member. A sufficient population of undersize particles are provided in each undersize class and differentials between relative proportions of undersize classes in an input stream and relative proportions of undersize classes in a throughs stream are controlled so as to provide a product having substantially the desired particle size distribution. Various means are provided for causing differentials between relative proportions of undersize classes in an input stream and relative proportions of undersize classes passing through a screening member and into a throughs stream, and for controlling these differentials. An output stream from one rate screening member may be blended with an output stream from another rate screening member and at least a portion of an output stream from one rate screening member may be recycled to a crusher and then sent to the same or a different rate screening member.

A sufficient population of undersize particles are provided in each undersize class and differentials between relative proportions of undersize classes in the feed stream and relative proportions of undersize classes in the throughs stream are controlled so as to provide a product having substantially the desired particle size distribution. Various means are provided for causing differentials between relative proportions of undersize classes in the feed and relative proportions of undersize classes passing through the screening member and into the throughs stream, and for controlling these differentials.

Shoe sole

An impacting crusher with a relatively wide rotor is adapted to receive its feed material from a relatively narrow conveyor, while establishing even distribution of wear across the rotor. Periods of operation between rotor overhaul and replacement are extended. Machines with adjustable cages may require less frequent cage adjustments, and are generally capable of a larger number of cage adjustments (with more favorable effect on machine performance). The relatively narrow conveyor feeds feed material to an enclosure which is adapted to maintain an inventory of such material and has an opening through which it discharges the material from the inventory to the rotor. The opening is elongated in a direction generally parallel to the rotor axis, is about as long as the width of the rotor, has its ends positioned substantially above the ends of the rotor, and is of substantially uniform width along its length. Means are provided to respectively increase and decrease the width of the elongated opening in response to increased and decreased inventory of material in the feeder, while retaining sufficient inventory to keep the entire length of the opening covered. Thus, although the width of the opening and the overall mass rate of material passing through it may fluctuate if the feed from the conveyor fluctuates, the mass flow through the opening is distributed substantially uniformly across its length. Thus, the material is distributed substantially uniformly across the width of the rotor, causing it to wear evenly across its width over an extended period of operation.

Impacting crusher with variable flow feed distributor

An improved apparatus for the simultaneous crushing and drying of materials, such as coal with high moisture content, which includes a hammermill having parallel top inlets for the material and a rapid flow of hot air. The material drops into the impactor circle of the hammermill prior to any substantial mixing with the flow of hot air. The flow of hot air is selectively directed into the crushing chamber, behind the breaker plates or in parallel to both locations, to dry the material during crushing. A substantially unobstructed bottom outlet permits high flow rates through the apparatus. A method of crushing and drying high moisture content material is also disclosed.

Crusher-dryer and method of crushing

A method of operating a rotor-equipped breaker/crusher for coal and other material in which the drum is rotated at close to critical speed, and in which lifter shelves in the drum are adjusted for dropping material into the path of the rotor at a point where the rotor not only fragments the material, but also emphasizes the flinging of the material against the downwardly moving perforated wall of the drum. Methods of this character enable a relatively small breaker/crusher to effectively duplicate the performance of much larger existing units, while successfully controlling the production of fines.

A rotor-equipped breaker/crusher drum for coal and other material in which means are provided for rotating the drum at close to critical speed, and in which lifter shelves in the drum are adjusted for dropping material into the path of the rotor at a point where the rotor not only fragments the material, but also emphasizes the flinging of the material against the downwardly moving perforated wall of the drum. Apparatus of this character enable a relatively small breaker/crusher to effectively duplicate the performance of much larger existing units, while successfully controlling the production of fines.
