A vehicle door assembly includes first and second weatherstripping components secured directly to the vertically movable window beneath the opening between the outer door panel and inner door trim panel such that the weatherstrips are not visible. The weatherstrips include upwardly protruding lip portions which cooperate with the base portion of the respective weatherstrip to form a channel for carrying water out of the door assembly. By securing the weatherstripping directly to the window, unsightly beltline weatherstrips are eliminated. Also, the frictional engagement of prior art beltline weatherstrips with the window is eliminated, thereby allowing downsizing of the window lifting mechanism, and allowing the use of plastic or glazed windows because the abrasion of prior art designs is eliminated.

Weatherstrip apparatus for vehicle door window

A lowerable window in an automotive vehicle has a guide and sealing system with a guide member attached substantially along the length of an edge of the window pane so as not to overlap with the outer surface thereof, the guide member having a guide conduit for interaction with a door channel having two prongs extending from vehicle door panels which define a channel portion therebetween. A guide member and the door channel are interposed such that the guide member receives a first prong of the door channel within the guide conduit and the door channel receives a guide edge within the channel portion. A seal member is mounted on the door channel so as to substantially fill a space between the guide edge and the first prong, and has at least three lip members, two of which extend laterally outward from the two prongs of the door channel so as to contact inward facing surfaces of the guide member. A compliant bulbous lip member is compressively sealingly interposed in non-overlapping relationship between the window edge and the outer surface of the vehicle door.

Guide and sealing system vehicle window flush with body surface

The disclosure concerns a regulator for moving a window in a vehicle door ccessively substantially vertically and horizontally and vice versa. In other words, once the window is closed vertically the lower edge may be moved outwardly horizontally to become more flush with the outside surface of the door of the vehicle. The regulator comprises a closed loop of cable wrapped about a reversible driving drum and having a vertical reach which is attached to a pulley connected to the carrier for the window. This pulley is provided with a pair of diametrically opposite cam follower pins or rollers that are guided in a vertical slot parallel to the vertical reach of cable, which slot has a bifurcated or Y-shaped pair of slots at its upper end for rotating the pulley up to about 180.degree. when the pulley reaches the 'Y' and the cable means continues to pull. The pulley also has a helical groove axial and integral therewith for positively screwing the carrier attached to the lower edge of the window outwardly horizontally. This carrier has a socket with a radial pin therein fitting into said helical groove so that oscillation of said pulley produces the horizontal reciprocating motion of the carrier and lower edge of the window. When the cable then pulls in the other direction on the pulley, it positively screws the window carrier inwardly horizontally before lowering the window carrier to open the window.

Flush window regulator

This disclosure deals with a window regulator assembly as a unit such as for vehicles and specifically vehicle doors, which doors have rigid frames so that the assembly may be installed in any type or shape of door, and the three parts of this assembly that are attached to any adjacent panel in the door after the door or wall in which it is to be installed has already been assembled. This assembly comprises a flexible plastic tape which may be twisted and bent in any direction, the opposite ends of which tape are wrapped around reversible motor or manually-driven drums so that as one end is wrapped, the other is unwrapped, and vice versa. These drums comprise the driving part of this assembly that is attached to a door. The tape also has a substantially straight vertical reach intermediate its ends, the length of which reach may be fixed by the length of a flexible plastic strip along this reach of the tape. This vertical reach of tape or strip has guides at its ends that comprise the two other parts of this assembly, which guides preferably surround the tape to insure the assembly as a unit. These two guide parts are attached to the door and are for changing the direction of the tape to extend toward the drums. A crimping and clamping device is attached to the straight vertical reach of the tape and to a carrier for the window that is to be opened and closed or regulated by the reciprocation of this vertical reach of tape. The tension in the tape is maintained by resiliently supported rollers in contact with the tape away from this substantially straight reach, which rollers may be mounted on the driving part or on a fourth part of this unitary assembly that also is separately attached to a door.
