Ion transport membrane oxidation system comprising an enclosure having an interior and an interior surface, inlet piping having an internal surface and adapted to introduce a heated feed gas into the interior of the enclosure, and outlet piping adapted to withdraw a product gas from the interior of the enclosure; one or more planar ion transport membrane modules disposed in the interior of the enclosure, each membrane module comprising mixed metal oxide material; and a preheater adapted to heat a feed gas to provide the heated feed gas to the inlet piping, wherein the preheater comprises an interior surface. Any of the interior surfaces of the enclosure, the inlet piping, and the preheater may be lined with a copper-containing metal lining. Alternatively, any of the interior surfaces of the inlet piping and the preheater may be lined with a copper-containing metal lining and the enclosure may comprise copper.

Feed gas contaminant control in ion transport membrane systems

A process for producing an oxygen enriched product includes: (a) providing a gas separation apparatus having at least one bed containing a mixture of at least two different nitrogen selective adsorbents, wherein the at least one bed is free of lithium cations; (b) feeding a feed gas containing oxygen and nitrogen into the gas separation apparatus to contact the at least one bed; and (c) recovering from the gas separation apparatus the oxygen enriched product. The process is preferably performed above ambient temperature and/or in a simplified four-step cycle. The cycle includes: (a) feeding a feed gas containing oxygen into a gas separation apparatus to contact at least one bed of the apparatus with the feed gas, wherein the feed gas is at a temperature above ambient; (b) countercurrently evacuating the at least one bed following the feeding; (c) countercurrently purging the at least one bed with the oxygen enriched product under vacuum; and (d) simultaneously pressurizing the at least one bed with a countercurrent stream of the oxygen enriched product and a cocurrent stream of the feed gas.

Oxygen production by adsorption

The present invention is a process for adsorbing carbon dioxide from a carbon dioxide containing gas mixture comprising contacting the gas mixture with an activated carbon adsorbent having a density in the range of approximately 0.56 to 0.61 g/cc (35 to 38 lbs./ft.sup.3) and adsorbing the carbon dioxide on the activated carbon adsorbent.

Adjusted density carbon for hydrogen PSA

A method for increasing product recovery or reducing the size of steam methane reformer and pressure swing adsorption systems utilized for hydrogen production. A significant portion of the hydrogen in the PSA depressurization and purge effluent gas, which is otherwise burned as fuel in the reformer, is recovered and recycled to the PSA system to provide additional high purity hydrogen product. This is accomplished by processing selected portions of the depressurization and purge effluent gas in adsorbent membrane separators to increase hydrogen content for recycle to the PSA system. Remaining portions of the depressurization and purge effluent gas which contain lower concentrations of hydrogen are utilized for fuel value in the reformer.

Hydrogen recovery by pressure swing adsorption integrated with adsorbent

An apparatus and method for regulating flow of product gas from a sorptive separation apparatus, especially during periods of discontinuous product supply and variable demand is set forth.
