Hot reloading a running application with an unsaved source code change. A code change to a source code of a running software application that is associated with a project type is identified. The code change is stored within an in-memory editor buffer, and is uncommitted to any source code file. It is determined that the code change can be applied to the running software application using hot reload. Hot reload agent(s) associated with the project type are identified. Using the hot reload agent(s), the code change is communicated to an application runtime associated with the running software application. At least one process of the running software application invokes a new compiled code entity corresponding to the code change.

Hot reloading a running application with an unsaved source code change

A client or Web application assembly or group of assemblies is bound to a version of shared assemblies associated with a particular targeted execution environment. The targeted execution environment (and thus the version of shared assemblies associated with it) may be selected or detected. A file such as a configuration file is automatically modified. The selected or detected execution environment may be the same as or different than the local version. The client or Web assembly is automatically bound to the targeted shared assemblies. A user interface enables the selection of a particular execution environment. Alternatively, a user interface informs of the detected targeted execution environment and enables the reconfiguration of the Web assembly. This invention provides a mechanism and process for maintaining legacy software after a new software development tool is installed, without deploying a new version of shared assemblies.

Cross version customization of design environment

The subject invention pertains to systems and methods to provide rich and intelligent programmatic assistance across language and compilation boundaries. In essence, the systems and methods can monitor a plurality of compilation units in a software project to determine the language(s) employed therewith and provide intelligent code assistance to the compilation units for the detected language(s). The rich and intelligent assistance can correspond to providing code suggestions, among other things, based on the programming language being utilized and the context of its use. In brief, the herein disclosed techniques provide a seamless design environment to facilitate coding in multiple programming languages amongst a plurality of compilation units in project.

Design-time system and method to enable programming assistance across languages and compilation boundaries

A method and apparatus for allowing multiple developers of software applications working in client/server computing network to remotely save, test and debug project files such as web pages. The client computer is capable of emulating server side operations to allow the developer to locally test changes to project files before they are saved on the server. The client computer maintains an accurate view of the overall project, but without having to locally copy the entire software project, by storing file information relating to the software project including, for example, metadata, link information, and BOT replacements, and/or a directory structure of the files and folders in the software project that mirrors the directory structure of the software project on the server. Various features include providing developers with the ability to check out, modify and debug files concurrently with other developers, and merging changes made by different developers to the same file. Concurrently modified files may be merged by prompting a developer when conflicts arise between the files to be merged.
