A method of assigning a unique IP address to a user of a mobile communication device in an OBS network allows for the dynamic assignment of IP addresses to users entering the OBS network. The OBS network includes a plurality of interconnected OBSs where each of the OBSs includes a user database including an OBS identifier, user identifier, assigned IP address, MAC hardware address, and beam identifier for each user in the network. The OBS network also includes a master ticketing authority that maintains a database of unique IP address that may be assigned to users entering the network, a gateway, a master routing database, and at least one mobile communication device in contact with an OBS. Users in the network are also authenticated through the transmittal of encrypted random numbers between a user authentication site and a mobile communication device.

Dynamic wireless internet address assignment scheme with authorization

A method of transmitting a message from a source node to a destination node in a small, wireless network having up to N nodes in which each message has appended thereto concise network configuration data which eliminates the need for routing protocols without adding significant overhead to the network communications. The method includes the steps of creating for each node a route table containing a count of the number of transmission hops necessary to reach each destination node and a node number of a neighboring node forming a next link in a chain of hops to each destination node, where the node number identifies a unique bit in an N bit address mask. Routing data is appended to the message data which includes an N bit destination word identifying the destination node or nodes, an N bit route word including a logical OR of the address mask of the relay node or nodes, and a route update message identifying what the current node knows about the network configuration. The number of N bit words in the route update message indicates a maximum number of transmission hops away from the current node that the current node could know about the network configuration. Upon receipt of such message data and its routing data, all receiving nodes update their route tables from the route update message. Then, if the receiving node is a destination node, the message data is processed. Also, if the receiving node is a relay node, then the receiving node replaces the route word and route update message with data from its updated route table and retransmits the message data with the destination word, the replaced route word and the replaced route update message as its routing data.

Traffic routing in small wireless data networks

A wavelength division multiplex optical crossconnect system and add/drop multiplexer including a dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) source which preferably includes a multiwavelength mode-locked (MWML) external cavity laser as a fundamental sub-circuit for optically crossconnecting several multi-wavelength data channels onto similar data channels having an interchanged set of optical wavelengths. The optical crossconnect architecture allows the rearrangement of multiple logical channels in a timely manner to support protection switching, traffic grooming, and other telecommunications network functions. The crossconnect architecture further supports multiple physical fibers into and out of the crossconnect, where each fiber carries multiple logical channels on multiple wavelengths of light which are assigned particular wavelength carriers, crossconnected onto any other physical fiber, and assigned another wavelength carrier. The add/drop multiplexer provides a completely optical passthrough for received optical signals.

A multi-wavelength mode-locked dense wavelength division multiplexed (MWML-DWDM) optical transmission method and system including a MWML-DWDM optical transmitter having a multiwavelength mode-locked (MWML) laser which generates a wavelength-ordered repetitive periodic (WORP) sequence of discrete optical pulses for modulation with data carried by at least one electronic carrier. Signals from multiple telecommunications transmission interfaces are multiplexed together by a high speed electronic time domain multiplexer to form a single multiplexed high speed digital transmission stream that is encoded onto the optical pulse stream output by the MWML-DWDM optical transmitter by an optical modulator so as to provide multiple channels of information carried on a DWDM data stream over an optical fiber to a receiver where the data is received and decoded. A single MWML-DWDM optical transmitter and a single modulator may replace the numerous laser sources and associated modulators used in conventional WDM optical transmission systems. Wavelength usage may be further maximized by combining the outputs of several MWML-DWDM optical transmitters in the frequency domain using optical combiners or in the time domain using time division multiplexing techniques according to which DWDM wavelengths may be used more than once during a WORP-frame but only once during a pulse-frame. A single MWML laser source can provide hundreds of optical carriers.
