Techniques involve a motor assembly including a rotor and a stator. The stator includes a contact surface for contacting an outer surface of the rotor. The contact surface includes a rigid material. The motor assembly also includes at least one constraint disposed along a length of the motor assembly, where the constraint constrains a radial and/or tangential movement of the rotor relative to the stator. The at least one constraint may be disposed at one or more proximate ends of the motor assembly, and/or along the length of the motor assembly. The contact surface of the stator may have a profile including peaks and valleys, and in some embodiments, the contact surface may be treated to reduce friction and/or wear.

Apparatus and method for controlling or limiting rotor orbit in moving cavity motors and pumps

Techniques relate to a moving cavity motor or pump, such as a mud motor, including a rotor, a stator, and one or more apparatus for constraining (i.e., controlling or limiting) the movement of the rotor relative to the stator, where the apparatus for constraining is operable with the rotor catch. The motor may include a top sub, power section having a progressive cavity motor with a stator and rotor, a rotor catch, and an apparatus between a proximal and distal end of the rotor catch shaft. The apparatus may constrain the radial and/or tangential movement of the rotor catch shaft and the rotor.

A Moineau style stator includes a stator tube having a plurality of rigid helical lobes formed on an inner surface thereof. The helical lobes define a major internal tube diameter that is greater than a pass through diameter of the tube such that the major diameter undercuts the pass through diameter of the tube. A major liner diameter may also be less than the pass through diameter so as to provide a suitable interference fit between rotor and stator.

A fluid pump includes a primary impeller and a secondary impeller disposed on a common drive shaft within a pump housing. The pump housing including a respective diffuser or volute therein for each of the primary impeller and the secondary impeller. A fluid passage is formed within the housing connecting a discharge of the primary impeller to an intake of the secondary impeller. Each of the primary and secondary impellers has a respective outlet port.

A progressive cavity pump or motor, particularly suitable for hydrocarbon recovery operations, includes a rotorand a stator. Fluid pressure in cavities between the stator and the rotor create torque which rotates the bit. An interior surface of the stator is rigidly secured to the outer housing of the pump stator and defines an interior profile. A substantially uniform thickness elastomeric layeris supported on the outer housing. The pump rotor has an exterior profile which corresponds with the interior profile of the elastomeric layer.

Progressive cavity pump/motor

A downhole pump system allows fluid to be pumped from a well to the surface through a production tubing string, while also allowing the downhole pump to be retrieved to the surface while the production tubing string remains in the well. The downhole pump may include a hold down housing , a mandrel , a drive coupling , and a lifting nut . The pump is driven by a drive rod, which conventionally extends from the surface to the downhole pump. Axial movement of pump components may be prevented by a spring lock mechanism , while torque transmitting surfaces prevent rotation of the pump housing with respect to a landing nipple

Downhole pumping system

A centrifugal pump assembly and method of using same including a vertical or horizontal overhung housing assembly having a primary inlet, a primary discharge, a secondary inlet and a secondary discharge. A shaft is in spaced relationship within the overhung housing assembly. A single primary impeller is mounted on the shaft for receiving fluid from the primary inlet and discharging fluid through the primary discharge. A booster impeller is mounted on the shaft and juxtaposed the main impeller for receiving fluid from the secondary inlet and discharging fluid through the secondary discharge. All fluid introduced to the secondary inlet originates from the primary discharge or may be diverted from the fluid flow upstream of the centrifugal pump assembly or the primary impeller. The fluid in the secondary inlet flows through the booster impeller and discharges through the secondary discharge. The secondary discharge is separate from the primary discharge.
