A contact lens constructed to limit the water transmissibility of at least one area of the lens while maintaining at least a minimum oxygen transmissibility. The water transmissibility maximum and oxygen permeability minimum are achieved by a predetermined lens thickness of a single lens material or by the use of two or more material layers.

Contact lenses, methods and systems for accomplishing the requirement for biocompatibility of oxygen delivery to the eye, and the cornea in particular, when elements and components are used which reduce the transmissibility of oxygen and which require coverage of a significant area of the non-vascularized cornea. A contact lens assembly is provided, comprising: an anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one element or component having a substantially low oxygen permeability disposed within the lens. The contact lens also includes a layer having an oxygen permeability greater than the aforementioned element or component. The thickness of this layer is such that the layer provides an equivalent oxygen percentage to the cornea beneath the aforementioned element or component.

The present disclosure relates to therapeutic optical devices configured to provide corneal reshaping for correction of refractive errors of an eye, as well as a peripheral refractive effect on on-axis and/or off-axis light to provide regulation of refractive error development in the eye. The present disclosure relates generally to multicomponent optical devices having a space within the device. In various embodiments, an optical device comprises a first posterior component having an anterior surface, a posterior support component, and an anterior component having a posterior surface. An optical device can also comprise an anterior skirt. The first posterior component and the anterior skirt can comprise gas-permeable optical materials. An optical device also comprises a primary space between the posterior surface and the anterior surface, with the primary space configured to permit diffusion of a gas from a perimeter of the primary space through the space and across the anterior surface of the first posterior component. A method of forming a multicomponent optical device having a space is also provided. Multicomponent optical devices comprise contact lenses and/or spectacles, alone or in combination, that provide for the ability to translate languages by visual and/or audio means and/or may be able to recognize locations, objects, shapes and the like and provide an audio or visual description of the object to a user of the multicomponent optical device.

A method includes molding a lens, the lens including a front portion and a rear portion and an intermediate portion therebetween, the rear portion adapted to be disposed in the direction of the back of the eye, the front portion adapted to be disposed in the direction of the front of an eye, wherein molding the lens includes disposing conductive parallel nanofilaments on or within the lens. A molded contact lens includes a rear portion adapted to be disposed in the direction of the back of the eye, and a front portion that is adapted to be disposed in the direction of the front of the eye. The molded lens includes conductive parallel nanofilaments located on or within a central region of the molded lens.

The present disclosure relates to devices and processes for fabricating a multi-component optical system. A device is an integral mold comprising an attachment portion and a cup portion having a cavity, and the mold further comprises a first optical component. The cavity of the mold contains additional optical components to form a multi-component optical system blank. Another device is a multi-component optical system blank. A process for fabricating a multi-component optical system blank comprises providing an integral mold comprising a first optical component, adding at least a second optical component, shaping the mold after addition of an optical component, and shaping the resultant blank into an optical system. A further device is a multi-component optical system produced in a process disclosed herein.

Devices and processes for fabricating multi-component optical systems

In exemplary embodiments, this invention comprises a method for communicating the geometry of a contact lens to a manufacturer. The method includes describing the shape of a first zone of a contact lens and describing the shape of a second zone of the contact lens by providing an angle of orientation from a reference point located on the first zone. The method may further include describing the shape of one or more additional zones by providing angles of orientation from a reference point on another zone.

System and method for communicating the geometry of a contact lens

The invention is directed to a contact lens design and methods of manufacturing, fitting and using such lenses. The contact lens may be designed for use in a corneal refractive therapy (CRT) program. The lens provides a design which allows proper fitting of a patient, whether for corrective contact lenses or for a CRT program. Due to the rational design of the lenses according to the present invention, a minimal number of lens parameter increments can be identified to cover the range of common corneas. It is therefore possible to provide pre-formed lens buttons or blanks which are easily formed into a final design, thereby simplifying and speeding up the treatment process. Further, any adjustment of the lens design which may be required based upon trial fitting or the like, is easily envisioned and implemented by the fitter.
