Approaches for idle mode operations for wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) with zero-energy (ZE) receivers are disclosed herein. A WTRU operating in idle mode, may receive using the main transceiver over a Uu interface, an energy harvesting (EH) configuration for use over a ZE air interface. The main transceiver may be turned off, and the ZE receiver as part of a ZE idle mode operation, may detect, over the ZE air interface, and harvest energy from ZE reference signals. The WTRU may calculate an amount of energy harvested from the ZE reference signals over a first time period. The WTRU may calculate a ZE idle mode operation energy consumption over the first time period. On a condition that the ZE idle mode operation energy consumption is greater than the harvested energy, the main transceiver may be turned on and the WTRU may enter a Uu interface idle mode operation.

Methods for cell (re-) selection with zero-energy (ZE) radio receivers

A method for use in a Wireless Transmit/Receive Unit (WTRU). The method comprises: receiving, using an active receiver, system information comprising a first system information set, wherein the first system information set is currently valid for the WTRU; storing the system information; deactivating the active receiver and activating a passive receiver; determining whether a difference between a first parameter in the BSSI and a first parameter in the first system information set is greater than a threshold value, wherein on a condition that the difference is greater than the threshold value, reactivating the active receiver to receive a second system information set as a currently valid system information set for the WTRU.

Methods for updating system information and wireless transmit/receive units using thereof

Latency reduction by fast forward (FF) in multi-hop communication device and/or systems is disclosed. Packets may be received and forwarded using a codeword (CW)-based approach with and/or without per-CW CRC. A FF session may have a flow ID and packets may have sequence numbers. Packets targeted for FF may be divided into independently decodable CWs that may be transmitted in the next hop, for example, as soon as the destination is determined without waiting for an entire packet's arrival and/or for CRC verification. Low latency (e.g. FF) traffic may be indicated. CW-based FF may be extensible for an e2e RAN path from a WTRU to the last access node in a RAN. Intermediate metrics, a packet CRC and/or a per-CW CRC may be utilized for data integrity. HARQ and/or CW retransmission procedures may be implemented between network nodes for error handling.

Latency reduction by fast forward in multi-hop communication systems

Systems, procedures, and instrumentalities are disclosed providing mixed data services such as mixed URLLC and eMBB services. In one example implementation, hierarchical modulation is dynamically configured and/or applied to provide the mixed services. The dynamic configuration and application of hierarchical modulation may be based on the respective priorities of the services and a condition of the concerned wireless network. The provision of the mixed services may utilize polar coding techniques. Control information may be mixed with data associated with the services.

Disclosed are embodiments of apparatuses and methods of use thereof for frequency domain (FD) chip level (CL) equalizers used in wireless receivers. The FD-CL-EQ may further selectively apply a higher order matrix inverse or a lower order matrix inverse in the calculation of a channel estimate based on whether interference is present or not. Further disclosed are embodiments of methods and apparatuses for estimating pilot signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in the wireless receivers. Further disclosed are methods and apparatuses for compensating for phase errors in received demodulated data symbols to improve performance of the wireless receivers.

Methods and apparatuses for advanced receiver design

Methods and apparatus for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmissions are disclosed. A base station may precode wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU)-specific reference signals and data that are transmitted to a WTRU using a randomly selected precoder. The precoder may be selected based on a predefined precoder selection sequence or by the base station. A different precoder may be applied to different resource blocks (RBs). In addition, a large delay cyclic delay diversity (CDD) or discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading may be applied on the WTRU-specific reference signals and the data. For heterogeneous deployed antennas, spatial diversity gain is achieved by dynamically scheduling resources between transmission points. A hopping scheme may be applied across the transmission points as the resources are dynamically partitioned between the transmission points. A different randomly selected precoder may be applied to each RB transmitted from a different transmission point.

Open loop spatial processing

A method and apparatus for estimating a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) are disclosed. A received signal includes signal energy on multiple basis functions. Desired signal energy in the received signal is transformed onto a first basis function with constant polarity. The desired signal energy is estimated by coherently averaging signal energy on the first basis function. A noise power is estimated by averaging signal energy on each basis function other than the first basis function and accumulating the averaged signal energy from the basis function other than the first basis function and scaling the accumulated signal energy to account for a noise estimate from the first basis function. An SIR is estimated by dividing the desired signal energy by the noise power.

A method and apparatus for reference transport channel (TrCH) selection includes tracking characteristics on each of a TrCH. Whether or not any TrCHs meet a predetermined criteria is determined. A reference TrCH is selected based upon the determination of TrCHs that meet the predetermined criteria.

Method and apparatus for reference transport channel selection

A method and apparatus for performing closed loop transmit power control of a fractional dedicated physical channel (F-DPCH) are disclosed. Transmit power control (TPC) symbols on an F-DPCH and common pilot channel (CPICH) symbols are received. A short term signal power estimate is calculated using the TPC symbols, and a short term noise power estimate is calculated using the CPICH symbols. A short term signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) on the F-DPCH is calculated. A long term signal power estimate and a long term noise power estimate are calculated using the TPC symbols. A long term SIR is calculated and compared to a TPC quality target. An SIR target is adjusted based on comparison of the long term SIR to the TPC quality target. The short term SIR is compared to the SIR target and a TPC command is generated based on comparison of the short term SIR to the SIR target.
