A cooled plasma source for producing ions by electrical discharge. A cooled plate is positioned in the chamber of the plasma source for blocking thermal radiation from an electron-emitting cathode. The presence of the cooled plate results in significantly decreased substrate temperatures, as compared to use of conventional plasma source apparatus. As a result, the cooled plasma source may be used for treatment of heat-sensitive plastic substrates.

Cooled plasma source

A cuff type air seal for sealing the overlap of partly telescoped parts that has an annular body of rubber or elastomer material having annular internal air sealing beads thereon which are adapted to fit on outer peripheral surfaces of the parts adjacent their overlap. Both parts have fixed outer diameters but the outer part may be a blow molded annular component having an internal diameter which varies so usually there is clearance and a potential air leak path at the overlap. An adjustable clamp encompasses the air seal and provides a constricting force so that the air sealing beads seal on the outer surfaces of the parts even though the clearance remains. The cuff is formed with a pocket that receives and retains a headed portion of the blow molded part when telescoped over the facing headed portion of the first part, particularly when the clamp is constricted.

A controlled-environment entertainment system comprising a reclining chair entirely enclosed in a sound-proof rectangular enclosure, an audio-visual entertainment system, and a ventilation system. The enclosure is constructed of two modules arranged for quick disengagement. Retractable wheels on the enclosure provide an added measure of mobility.

Controlled-environment entertainment center

An electron-bombardment ion source includes means defining a chamber for containing an ionizable gas together with means for introducing such gas into that chamber. Disposed therein is an anode and an electron-emissive cathode. The potential impressed between the anode and the cathode to effect electron emission at a sufficient velocity to ionize the gas. Also included are means for accelerating ions out of the chamber together with means for establishing a magnetic field within the chamber that increases the efficiency of ionization of the gas by the electrons. Mounted within the chamber is an anode of non-magnetic material that defines an essentially continuous and smooth surface which encloses substantially all of the volume within which the ionization occurs except the exit for the accelerated ions out of the chamber. The entire design is such as to ensure ready removability of the different components for quick and easy cleaning.

Electron bombardment ion sources

A workpiece holder for semiconductor workpieces during treatment with a substantially cylindrical casing shaped like a hockey puck having an upper surface for receiving a workpiece, a lower surface, at least one bore between the surfaces for applying a vacuum and a hollow interior for a heat absorbing composition preferably one which melts above ambient temperature but below temperatures which might damage workpieces. Suitable compositions include Glauber's salt, and calcium chloride hexahydrate. In one embodiment, curved, substantially radially extending vanes are preferably provided in the interior space for causing radial flow when the casing is rotated or oscillated. In a second embodiment, a plurality of bores extend between a manifold which extends radially and a plurality of circumferential grooves.
