In one embodiment, a programmable pedalboard for a musical instrument is provided. The pedalboard includes a docking station for receiving a removable portable computer that provides a plurality of instrument effects. The docking station is configured to receive an audio signal from a musical instrument and to modify the audio signal from the musical instrument based on at least one instrument effect from the plurality of instrument effects.

A musical apparatus including a first audio looping device for being electrically coupled to a second audio looping device is provided. The first audio looping device being configured to receive a first audio signal from a first musical instrument and to store the first audio signal. The first audio looping device being further configured to playback the stored first audio signal as a first loop a first number of times. The first audio looping device being further configured to transmit synchronization information to the second audio looping device that stores a second audio signal and that plays back the stored second audio signal as a second loop a second number of times. The synchronization information enabling the first loop and the second loop to be synchronized with one another during playback.

Various embodiments relate to a systems and methods for downloading one or more effects to an effects unit. One or more effects may be received. On an effects unit. Audio signals for the one or more effects may be processed based on instructions for processing the audio signals received with the one or more effects. For each subsequent effect received on the effect unit, the processing of the audio signals may be reprogrammed. The one or more effects may be transmitted for output from the effects unit.
