Arc suppressor coating structures with enhanced limiting characteristics for color cathode ray tubes are achieved by employment of a high electrical resistance coating (30) having, in a specific area, an extremely high resistance (i.e., insulator) coating (46) thereon which provides a seating area for an antenna getter mounted upon the electron gun. The insulator coating is preferably comprised of about 71.2% Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 and 28.2% K.sub.2 SiO.sub.3. Insulating the antenna getter from, the high resistance coating reduces electrical shorts and keeps arc currents within the range of less than 40 amps. Such results were not previously achievable with antenna getter usage.

Cathode ray tube arc suppressor coating

A composition for a brazing slurry which will form solid connections below 1600.degree. C. The composition comprises, by weight, about 21% to 22% fine particle tungsten; about 7% to 8% calcium oxide; about 5% to 6% silicon dioxide; about 5% to 6% titanium dioxide; about 3% to 4% aluminum oxide; and about 55.5 % to 57.5 % of an organic binder. The composition is well suited to attaching leads to metallized patterns formed on ceramic substrate and can also be employed as the pattern forming material.

Brazing slurry

A composition for a brazing slurry which will form solid connections below 1600.degree. C. The composition comprises, by weight, about 15% to 16.5% fine particle tungsten; about 5% to 6% calcium oxide; about 4% to 5% silicon dioxide; about 6% to 7% aluminum oxide; and about 67% to 70% of an organic binder. The composition is well suited to attaching leads to metallized patterns formed on ceramic substrate and can also be employed as the pattern forming material. When employed in electron discharge devices as a means of forming cathode and/or heater configurations, and for attaching leads thereto, the material is resistant to heater-cathode leakage.

The titled assembly comprises a ceramic substrate having opposed surfaces bearing thereon discrete metallized patterns. One of the patterns serves as a base for an electron emissive material and the other serves as a heater.

Fast warmup cathode and method of making same

A fast warm up, die-drawn, low mass cathode cap is substantially cup-shaped having a closed end and an upstanding side wall integral therewith. The thickness of the side wall is less than that of the closed end, permitting more of the heater energy to be concentrated in the closed end which carries, on the outer surface thereof, the electron emissive material.

Cathode ray tube cathode

Performance of fast warm up cathodes can be improved by providing a black heat radiating surface on the interior of the cathode cap. A particular material can be nichrome which is a nickel chromium alloy. The cathode cap material can be selected from any of the known cathode nickel alloys. A preferred method for accomplishing the result includes the steps of cladding a selected nickel alloy with the nichrome material and then forming the substantially cup shaped cap with the clad material on the interior thereof. The formed cathode cap is then fired for about 10 minutes or longer in wet dissociated ammonia at a temperature of about 900.degree. to 1300.degree.C to oxidize the available chromium on the surface of the nichrome. This produces an even dark surface thereon which has much higher heat radiating capabilities than the silver looking nickel cathode alloy.
