Provided is a filter assembly for a bioremediating catch basin. The filter assembly comprises a container having at least one inlet and at least one outlet; a carrier substance, such as a foam, which carries a microorganism capable of digesting hydrocarbons; and optionally an adsorbent material. The filter assembly also optionally has structures for overflow conditions which allow the exit of water, but not floating contaminants from the catch basin. Also provided is a replaceable cartridge for the filter assembly. Also provided is a method for bioremediation of polluted water.

Filter assembly, bioreactor catch basin and method of using the same

A handheld CZT radiation detector having a CZT gamma-ray sensor, a multichannel analyzer, a fuzzy-logic component, and a display component is disclosed. The CZT gamma-ray sensor may be a coplanar grid CZT gamma-ray sensor, which provides high-quality gamma-ray analysis at a wide range of operating temperatures. The multichannel analyzer categorizes pulses produce by the CZT gamma-ray sensor into channels (discrete energy levels), resulting in pulse height data. The fuzzy-logic component analyzes the pulse height data and produces a ranked listing of radioisotopes. The fuzzy-logic component is flexible and well-suited to in-field analysis of radioisotopes. The display component may be a personal data assistant, which provides a user-friendly method of interacting with the detector. In addition, the radiation detector may be equipped with a neutron sensor to provide an enhanced mechanism of sensing radioactive materials.

Handheld CZT radiation detector

An automatic pumping system for removal of floating contaminants and oil and gasoline seepage from water wells. A vertically reciprocating cone-shaped member, like an inverted funnel, is moved between positions above and below the water surface. As it submerges, the inverted funnel collects the floating product within its circumference and transfers it to a collection space surrounding the cone. In the upper position, this collection space is sealed so that air may be blown into it while the collected product is driven out through a pickup tube to a collection sump for ultimate disposal. A second embodiment incorporates a hydraulic pumping system which operates in synchronism with the contamination collection and disposal system to create a cone of depression which draws the floating product into the space covered by the circumference of the reciprocating cone.

Disclosed is a garage door opening device, including a garage door opener transmitter which provides a signal to a receiver that, upon receiving said signal, actuates a drive mechanism that opens the garage door. The transmitter is positioned in an automobile in a location normally hidden from view of a driver of the automobile. The transmitter includes a pair of terminals across which a manually operable switch element is connected. This switch element has means for connecting it across the terminals, with the actuator for the switch element mounted in the automobile in an exposed position in view of the driver and within easy reach of the driver. Preferably, the switch element is of the push button type.

Garage door opening device

A liquid level sensing apparatus for detecting leaks in storage tanks. A buoyancy member is at least partially immersed in the liquid, suspended from a pivoted, counterbalanced, parallelogram support arrangement with a radio frequency target sensing element for electrical readout of displacement. Two such apparatus are incorporated in a system with a provision for measuring a portion of the liquid of the tank in isolation from the remainder, in order to provide for temperature compensation.

A method of forming an antireflection rectangular-groove surface-relief grating on a lossy substrate exposed to incident waves of transverse electric or transverse magnetic or combination of polarizations and any angle of incidence in a lossless medium. The required thickness and complex refractive index of a single homogeneous layer on a lossy substrate to produce zero reflectivity is first computed using an impedance matching approach. The filling factor and groove depth of the rectangular groove surface-relief grating that is equivalent to the single homogeneous layer in the long-wavelength limit are then calculated. The surface-relief grating is then formed on the lossy substrate by reactive ion etching, electron beam lithography, or holography.
