A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, a first hydraulic pump/motor coupled with the internal combustion engine, and a second hydraulic pump/motor is coupled with at least one driven wheel of the vehicle. A clutch establishes a driving connection between the first hydraulic pump/motor and the internal combustion engine, and selectively interrupts the driving connection when disengaged. At least one vehicle accessory device is coupled to the first hydraulic pump/motor. The at least one vehicle accessory device is operable under power of the internal combustion engine when the clutch is engaged and the internal combustion engine is running, and the at least one vehicle accessory device is operable directly by the first hydraulic pump/motor operating in a motor mode when the clutch is disengaged, regardless of whether or not the internal combustion engine is running. A corresponding method of operating the vehicle is also provided.

Accessory drive for hybrid vehicles

An expandable accumulator and reservoir assembly includes a housing defining an interior chamber configured to contain a working fluid therein. An expandable accumulator is positioned at least partially within the housing. The expandable accumulator includes at least one flexible member configured to be at least partially immersed in the working fluid contained within the interior chamber. A rigid support member is positioned in the interior chamber and outside of the expandable accumulator. The rigid support member has at least one aperture to allow passage of the working fluid. An additional flexible member is positioned outside the rigid support member and has perimeter portions sealed to the outside of the rigid support member. The additional flexible member defines a flexible boundary between a primary reservoir inside the additional flexible member and a separate secondary reservoir outside the additional flexible member.

Strain energy accumulator

A powertrain for a hybrid vehicle includes an engine, a transmission and an electric machine disposed therebetween. The electric machine includes a stator housing, a stator mounted within the stator housing and a rotor mounted radially within and coaxial with the stator. The electric machine further includes a first clutch disposed between the engine and the rotor, and a second clutch disposed between the rotor and the transmission. The first and second clutches include non-ferrous clutch plates which are adapted to be immersed in hydraulic fluid. The electric machine has a first mode wherein the electric machine provides torque to the engine, a second mode wherein the electric machine is driven by the engine and a third mode wherein the electric machine provides torque to the transmission. The first and second clutches are positioned radially within the stator housing and axially within the length of the stator housing.

Electric machine with integrated wet clutches

The present invention provides an actuator assembly for operating a cylinder valve of an internal combustion engine. The actuator assembly achieves fast response times by utilizing a solenoid actuator that contains an armature element formed of a powder metal. A valve system that utilizes two of the actuator assemblies in conjunction with a cylinder valve is also provided.
