A home security and automation system includes multi-sensor sensor devices that communicate with a base unit. Each sensor device is a self-identifying multi-function device that includes a housing, multiple sensors disposed in the housing, and a communication device disposed in the housing that permits communication between the sensor device and the base unit. Each sensor device is configured to be operated in multiple operating modes, and an active operating mode of each sensor device, corresponding to one operating mode selected from the several possible operating modes, is determined by the orientation in space of the sensor device housing. The base unit is configured to receive from each sensor device information identifying the active operating mode.

A device and method for detecting motion using an adjustable detection shell. The motion detector includes an antenna; a reception circuit configured to receive a reflected radio frequency (RF) signal via the antenna; a time gate circuit electrically connected to the reception circuit and configured to generate a control signal for the reception circuit based on a timing setpoint signal; and an electronic processor electrically connected to the reception circuit and the time gate circuit. The electronic processor is configured to receive a signal from the reception circuit indicative of motion occurring within a detection shell that is adjustable via the timing setpoint signal. The signal is based on the reflected RF signal. The electronic processor is further configured to generate a notification when the signal received from the reception circuit is indicative of motion occurring within the detection shell.

High security motion sensor

A device and method for detecting motion with antimasking capability. In one example, the device includes an antenna, a dual-channel reception circuit, and an electronic processor. The dual-channel reception circuit includes a first channel and a second channel. The electronic processor is electrically connected to the dual-channel reception circuit and is configured to receive a first signal from the first channel indicative of motion at a first range, and receive a second signal from the second channel indicative of motion at a second range. At least a portion of the second range is shorter than the first range. Based on the first signal and the second signal, the electronic processor is configured to generate a notification.

Motion sensor with antimask protection

A door/window magnetic sensing device includes a housing, a magnetic sensor disposed in the housing and configured to sense signal strength of a magnet and output a signal strength value, and a controller for receiving a signal strength value from the magnetic sensor. The controller is configured to compare the signal strength value to an alarm threshold value and output one of a normal state signal and an alarm state signal. Further, a tamper state is detected from the approach of a second magnet. An indicator assists in mounting the door/window magnetic sensing device and mounting a magnet assembly.

Door/window magnetic sensing device and method of installing

A motion detector and method of operating the motion detector including an antenna configured to transmit radio frequency (RF) signals and receive reflected RF signals. The motion detector also includes a controller configured to generate a notification when a target object is detected and an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) electrically coupled to the antenna and the controller. The ASIC is configured to generate and send the RF signals to the antenna and to receive the reflected RF signals via the antenna. The ASIC also receives at least one control parameter from the controller and sends an output signal to the controller indicative of motion of a target object based on the at least one control parameter and the reflected RF signals.

A window sensing device with movement detection enables use of a window sensing arrangement to provide an indication even when a window sash that is open is moved, while an alarm system is armed. The window sensing device includes an accelerometer configured to sense movement of a window sash in a given direction. A magnetic sensor is configured to sense presence of a magnet when the window sash is in a closed position. An electronic controller outputs a normal state wireless signal when the magnetic sensor senses the magnet and outputs an alarm state wireless signal when the magnetic sensor does not sense the presence of the magnet. When the electronic controller is outputting an alarm state wireless signal and the accelerometer senses movement of a window sash, the electronic controller outputs an indication of movement of a window sash in a given direction.

A motion detector and a method for operating the motion detector including a radio frequency (RF) transmission circuit, an RF reception circuit, and a controller that is electrically coupled to the RF transmission circuit and the RF reception circuit. The controller is configured to control the RF transmission circuit to generate an RF signal and control the RF reception circuit to receive a reflected RF signal from a target object in a predetermined time for reception after transmission of the RF signal. The controller is further configured to control the RF reception circuit to generate a Doppler signal indicative of a distance between the target object and the motion detection system based on the reflected RF signal. The controller is further configured to adjust a sensitivity of the RF reception circuit during the predetermined time for reception and activate an indicator based on the magnitude of the Doppler signal.

A device for responding to movement in or around a vehicle. In one example, the device comprises a radio frequency (RF) transmission circuit, a radio frequency (RF) transmission circuit, and a controller that is electrically coupled to the RF transmission circuit and RF reception circuit. The controller times the generation of control signals to create detection envelopes. The controller also determines motion within the detection envelopes, and generates an output based on the detection envelope that motion was determined within.

Method for responding to movement in and around a locked vehicle

A security system includes a video system for capturing images of an intruder. A deterrent dispensing device dispenses a deterrent substance in a selected direction. An actuator module is communicatively coupled to the video system and is coupled to the deterrent dispensing device. The actuator module receives a video signal from the video system and, in response thereto, controls the deterrent dispensing device to thereby aim the dispensed deterrent substance in a direction of the intruder.

A method of aligning an optical beam includes transmitting a first beam from a first optical transceiver to a second optical transceiver. A position of the second optical transceiver is adjusted based upon the received first beam. A second beam is transmitted from the second optical transceiver to the first optical transceiver. A command signal is transmitted from the second optical transceiver to the first optical transceiver. In response to the command signal, a position of the first optical transceiver is adjusted based upon the received second beam.

Automatically aligning photobeam arrangement

An apparatus for enabling and disabling a lookdown zone mask in an intrusion detector unit. The unit may include a passive infrared motion detector, a lens assembly, and a mask or cover which selectively enables and disables a lookdown zone associated with the detector. The lens assembly provides a lens proximate the detector. The lens provides the lookdown zone. When the mask substantially covers the lens, the lookdown zone is disabled because the path of radiant energy to the detector is blocked and prevents the detector from detecting any motion in the lookdown zone. When the mask does not cover the lens, the lookdown zone is enabled because the lens permits the path of radiant energy to the detector through the lens and allows the detector to detect any motion in the lookdown zone.
