In order to protect a fabric rebuild polymer which undergoes, during a laundry treatment process, a chemical change by which the affinity of the rebuild agent for the fabric is increased, from hydrolysis on storage, the fabric rebuild agent is in the form of a granule comprising fabric rebuild agent, acidic binder, neutral filler and optionally acidic filler. The granule can be post-dosed to a powder detergent composition.

Laundry treatment granule and detergent composition containing laundry treatment granule

A granular detergent component comprising a high level of surfactant, for example, cationic surfactant, and an inorganic carrier material is prepared by a process involving spraying an aqueous solution of the surfactant onto moving granules of the inorganic carrier material in the presence of a drying gas, preferably air, at a temperature within the range of from 65 to 200&deg; C. The process is preferably carried out in a fluidised bed. Preferred inorganic carrier materials are sodium carbonate and zeolite MAP.

Granular detergent component and process for its preparation

A process for the production of detergent particles, comprises feeding an acid precursor of an anionic surfactant and a neutralising agent into a horizontal thin-film evaporator/drier comprising a mixing region, a drying region and a cooling region. The resultant detergent particles are graded to separate an oversize granule fraction in which at least 70 wt % of the particles have a minimum diameter of 1000 &mgr;m. This fraction is fed back into the process.

Production of anionic surfactant granules by in situ neutralisation

In process for producing detergent particles, an acid precursor of an anionic surfactant and a neutralizing agent are fed into a horizontal thin-film evaporator/drier where they are neutralized, granulated and dried. The neutralizing agent is present in an amount equal to or in excess that required for stoichiometric neutralization and has a D50 mean particle size of less than 40 &mgr;m.

Production of anionic surfactant granules by in situ neutralization

A process for the production of detergent particles comprises feeding an acid precursor of an anionic surfactant, a neutralizing agent and aluminosilicate detergency builder into a horizontal thin-film evaporator/drier. The evaporator/drier comprises a mixing region, a drying region and a cooling region. Neutralization of the acid precursor is effected, together with granulation, drying and cooling, to form the detergent particles. At least some of the aluminosilicate builder is fed into the thin-film evaporator/drier between the drying region and the cooling region and/or into the cooling region. When all of he aluminosilicate builder is fed into the cooling region, the aluminosilicate is in an amount of more than 20% by weight of the particles exiting the cooling region.

Detergent composition containing at least two granular components

A particulate free-flowing laundry detergent composition comprises at least two different granular components: a granular component containing anionic surfactant, and a granular nonionic surfactant component comprising from 20 to 30 wt % of nonionic surfactant on a non-spray-dried particulate carrier material comprising sodium sesquicarbonate. The nonionic surfactant component is preferably prepared by in-situ neutralisation of sodium carbonate with a water-soluble organic acid in the presence of the nonionic surfactant, in a high- or moderate-shear mixer.

A particulate detergent composition having a bulk density of 700 g/l or less and containing at least 10 wt % (preferably at least 15 wt %) of organic detergent surfactant comprises a base powder composed of at least two granular components. Less than 80% by weight, preferably less than 66% by weight, of the base powder has a compressibility (measured at 20-25&deg; C. and about 40% relative humidity) of 17% or more. Preferably one of the components of the base powder is a granule containing a high level (at least 60 wt %) of anionic surfactant.

Detergent compositions

In a process for producing detergent particles comprising an anionic surfactant, a paste comprising water and the surfactant is fed to a drying zone where it is heated. Subsequently, the paste is cooled in a cooling zone. A layering agent is introduced into the cooling zone to improve granularity.

A process for producing granules of anionic surfactant, preferably PAS by heating an aqueous paste of the surfactant to a temperature in excess of 130.degree. C. and subsequently cooling the feedstock to provide surfactant granules, detergent particles obtainable by the process and compositions containing them are disclosed.

The process comprises the steps of treating a mixture comprising said detergent additive and a hydratable material with a polymeric material of high Tg in a high-speed mixer/granulator. A preferred detergent additive is a peroxyacid bleach precursor.
