An electrified vehicle includes a human-machine interface to enable a towed vehicle mode to enable electric pumps to lubricate and/or cool vehicle components and to disable driver assistance features while the electrified vehicle is being towed by another vehicle. The electrified vehicle includes a drivetrain having an electric machine configured to provide propulsive torque to vehicle wheels, a high-voltage traction battery selectively connected to the electric machine, a battery powered fluid pump configured to pump fluid to the drivetrain, and a controller programmed to, after receiving a signal enabling towed vehicle operation of the electrified vehicle, control operation of the battery powered fluid pump while the electrified vehicle is being towed. The controller may disable one or more driver assistance features and alerts such as automatic emergency braking, automatic shifting of the drivetrain, automatic parking brake operation, automatic headlights, automatic steering, cruise control, parking assistance, and external object distance detection.

Towed electrified vehicle control

An electrified vehicle includes an electric machine, a traction battery selectively connected to the electric machine, a human-machine interface (HMI), and a controller programmed to, after receiving a signal from the HMI enabling towed vehicle operation of the electrified vehicle, control the electric machine to generate a regenerative braking torque in response to deceleration of the electrified vehicle exceeding an associated deceleration threshold and road grade being below a road grade threshold. The controller may also be programmed to control friction brakes of the electrified vehicle in response to the deceleration exceeding the associated threshold. The controller may control brake lights of the electrified vehicle in response to the regenerative braking and/or friction braking. Regenerative and friction braking may be released in response to acceleration exceeding a corresponding threshold.

Towed electrified vehicle braking control

An electrified vehicle may include an electric motor coupled to a battery to propel and brake the vehicle, a pedal generating a pedal position signal including a released position signal, friction brakes configured to provide a stopping force to vehicle wheels, and a controller programmed to control the motor and the brakes in response to the pedal being released to decelerate the vehicle to a stop, and to control the motor and an engine (in hybrid vehicles) to inhibit propulsive torque to the wheels after stopping due to the pedal released position until receiving driver input indicative of a request for moving the vehicle, such as depressing the brake or accelerator pedal, or activating an automated vehicle maneuver, such as a parking maneuver, cruise control, or stop-and-go control. Inhibiting torque may include inhibiting creep torque and/or operating the electric machine to charge the battery when the engine is running.

Systems and methods are provided for coordinating and controlling power flow during bidirectional energy transfer events between an electrified vehicle and one or more charging trailers. The systems and methods may prioritize energy transfers between each connected energy based on a charge priority selection that may be manually input by a user of the system. Charge energy may be transferred to the appropriate energy unit using such a manual approach to meet customer needs with varying levels of priority according to an energy transfer prioritization control strategy that is derived from various inputs that are considered.

Systems and methods for controlling power flow between electrified vehicles and charging trailers based on manually selected charge priority levels

Systems and methods for operating an internal combustion engine that is coupled to a power split transmission are described. In one example, the internal combustion engine is operated in a speed control mode or a torque control mode in response to a braking torque and a transmission shift command. Operating the engine in the torque control mode may allow the engine to charge a battery while a neutral transmission state is selected.

Methods and system for operating an engine

A vehicle includes a battery, an electric machine, an electrical outlet, and a controller. The electric machine is configured to charge the battery. The electrical outlet is configured to draw power from the battery to power an external device. The controller is programmed to adjust a rate at which the electric machine charges the battery based on a power consumption at the electrical outlet exceeding a threshold and a battery degradation value.

The engine and the electric machine are each configured to propel the vehicle. A vehicle having an engine, a battery, and an electric machine configured to propel the vehicle and selectively coupled to the engine to start the engine includes a controller configured to prompt for input to activate a cold weather mode in response to an expected ambient temperature to be below a first temperature threshold for a time period during which a subsequent engine start is anticipated, and to operate the engine and electric machine to maintain a state of charge (SOC) of the battery above a first SOC threshold in response to activation of the cold weather mode, and a second SOC threshold lower than the first SOC threshold otherwise.

Electrified vehicle energy management for robust cold power discharge capability

A system and method are disclosed for charging a depleted battery within a first hybrid vehicle when connected to a second hybrid vehicle using a junction box. The system may include a wire harness having high voltage interlock connectors (HVIL) and high voltage (HV) connectors that connected to both the first vehicle and second vehicle. The system may also include one or more controllers that engage the charged battery to start a first engine within the first vehicle or, alternatively, a second engine within the second vehicle. After the first engine or second engine is started, the charged battery will be disconnected and the depleted battery may be connected using a set of HV contactors. The first engine or the second engine may then be operated to charge the depleted battery. Charging may stop when the depleted battery is charged within a specified SoC range.

System and method for recharging depleted hybrid vehicle battery

A method for operating a vehicle that includes a torque converter is described. In one example, the method adjusts torque of an electric machine in response to a requested torque converter speed. The requested torque converter speed linearizes torque output of a torque converter so that vehicle wheel torque control may be improved.

A vehicle includes a traction battery and a controller. The controller, responsive to a command to enter a highway, confirmation the traction battery can output power to accelerate the vehicle to enter the highway via an entrance at a same speed as traffic on the highway in a vicinity of the entrance, and an increase in temperature beyond a threshold of the traction battery predicted to occur on the highway due to expected commands to maintain the same speed on the highway with power from the traction battery, increases cooling of the traction battery prior to entering the highway.

A hybrid vehicle includes an isolation switch disposed between a first bus that is electrically coupled to a starter for an engine and a second bus that is electrically coupled to a power converter and accessory loads. The hybrid vehicle includes a controller programmed to normally command the switch closed, and, in response to expiration of a predetermined time interval without starting the engine, command the switch to open for a predetermined duration to perform diagnostics on the isolation switch.
