A method for storing holographic data, said method comprising: step (A) providing an optically transparent substrate comprising a polymer composition and a light absorbing chromophore, said polymer composition comprising a continuous phase and a dispersed phase, said dispersed phase being less than about 200 nm in size; and step (B) irradiating a volume element of the optically transparent substrate with a holographic interference pattern, wherein the pattern has a first wavelength and an intensity both sufficient to cause a phase change in at least a portion of the dispersed phase within the volume element of the substrate to produce within the irradiated volume element refractive index variations corresponding to the holographic interference pattern, thereby producing an optically readable datum corresponding to the volume element.

Disclosed herein is a polycarbonate copolymer comprising A) a structure derived from a dihydroxy alkylene oxide compound selected from the group consisting of formula (1a) and formula (1b):H-(E-X)&#x2014;OH&#x2003;&#x2003;(1a)H-(E-X-E)-OH&#x2003;&#x2003;(1b)wherein E and X are different and each and independently are selected from the group consisting of formula (2a) and formula (2b):&#x2014;(OCHCH)&#x2014;&#x2003;&#x2003;(2a)&#x2014;(OCHRCH)&#x2014;&#x2003;&#x2003;(2b)wherein R is a Calkyl group; l, m, and n are integers greater than or equal to 1; and wherein the weight average molecular weight of the total amount of the structures corresponding to formula (2b) in the copolymer is between 100 and 2,000 g/mol; and B) a structure derived from a dihydroxy aromatic compound, wherein the weight percentages are based on the total weight of the structures of A) and B).

Polycarbonate-poly(alkylene oxide) copolymer compositions and articles formed therefrom

Disclosed herein is a polycarbonate copolymer comprising A) a structure derived from a dihydroxy alkylene oxide compound selected from the group consisting of formula (1a) and formula (1b):H-(E-X)&#x2014;OH&#x2003;&#x2003;(1a)H-(E-X-E)-OH&#x2003;&#x2003;(1b)

Copolyetherimides compositions having high glass transition temperatures and outstanding ductility are presented. The copolyetherimides having Mof at least 40,000 comprising isomeric bis(phthalimide) structural units within a relatively narrow range of isomer proportions exhibited Tgs of at least 240&#xb0; C. and outstanding Notched Izod values. The copolyetherimides comprise oxydianiline residues and structural units of the formulas (I) and (II) (III). The copolyetherimides are characterized by a mole percentage of structural units derived from 4,4'-biphenol in a range from about 55% to about 85% of all bisphenol-derived structural units present in the copolyetherimide composition; a mole percentage of structural units derived from bisphenol A in a range from about 45% to about 15% of all bisphenol-derived structural units present in the copolyetherimide composition; and a total mole percentage of structural units derived from bisphenol A or 4,4&#x2032;-biphenol of at least 95% of all bisphenol-derived structural units present in the copolyetherimide composition.

Copolyetherimides

A method for producing a transparent article comprises the steps of melt transesterifying a monomer mixture in the presence of a transesterification catalyst to produce a hydroquinone polycarbonate copolymer product comprising greater than 45 mole percent of structural units derived from the hydroquinone. The monomer mixture comprises a hydroquinone, at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound other than the hydroquinone, and a carbonic acid diester. The hydroquinone polycarbonate copolymer product is then heated to a highest processing temperature of 5&#xb0; C. to 20&#xb0; C. above a maximum melting melt temperature for the hydroquinone copolymer product for a sufficient period of time to render the hydroquinone polycarbonate copolymer product transparent upon cooling to ambient temperature; and cooling the hydroquinone polycarbonate copolymer product to produce the transparent article. The method can also be used for producing transparent hydroquinone polycarbonate copolymers, which can be used for producing the transparent articles.

Copolyetherimides comprise phthalimide structural units comprising both 3- and 4-linkages, wherein the designations 3-linkage and 4-linkage refer to the isomeric positions on the phthalimide ring in the totality of phthalimide-comprising structural units in the copolymer. The products have excellent properties, including high glass transition and heat distortion temperatures, high ductility and good melt flow properties, and low polydispersity.

Additional diene based rubber stability can be achieved by using preextruded polyphenylene ether. The resulting melt extruded blends have been found to enjoy increased resistance to change in impact values when recycled in the molded state.

There are provided melt extruded blends of diene based rubber and preextruded polyphenylene ether, or blends thereof with an effective amount of a stabilizer such as a hindered phenol or metal deactivator/hindered phenol.
