An assembly for distributing laser energy is provided that is formed using a compact rigid housing with a sealed beam path contained therein. The assembly employs a monolithic housing with modular collimator and mirror switching components installed therein to reduce its size while maintaining a sealed beam path thereby reducing the possibility of contamination of the beam path. Other than the optics and mirror, there are no elements of the distribution device contained within the beam path. In one embodiment, the assembly distributes incoming energy from a single source to one or more outputs. In another embodiment, the assembly operates as a beam combiner to direct energy from one or more sources to a single output.

Apparatus for selectively distributing energy from a laser beam

A coupler assembly for a fiber laser is disclosed. The assembly includes a tubular housing having a sidewall with an interior surface, an exterior surface, a first end and a second end. An input collimator unit is also included and configured to be received within the first end of the sidewall of the tubular housing. An output collimator unit received within the second end of the sidewall of the tubular housing. Further included is a compression mechanism configured and arranged to concentrically align the input collimator unit and the output collimator unit about a common central axis. The assembly may further include an alignment mechanism configured and arranged to optically align the input collimator unit and the output collimator unit about a common optical axis. Optionally, a fluid coolant system may also be included.

Beam coupler

A mirror positioning assembly for use in beam switching is provided that employs a novel arrangement of the mirrors and the motors to selectively position the mirrors. The assembly is installed into the housing of an assembly for distributing laser energy where the mirrors are contained within the beam cavity and the remainder of the assembly is outside of the housing. The assembly is received in a port within the housing in a manner that allows 360&#xb0; of rotational adjustment so that the mirror can be carefully aligned to insure near lossless distribution of the beam energy as it passes through the device. This arrangement keeps the electronics, motors, bearings and adjustments of the mirror switching external to the beam cavity herby reducing the number of potential contaminants contained therein.

Mirror positioning apparatus for use in beam switching

A beam coupler assembly for a fiber laser is disclosed. The assembly includes a housing having a sidewall with an interior surface, an exterior surface, a first end and a second end. A first seal extending from the interior surface of the tubular housing and dividing the housing into a first section and a second section is also provided. The first section and second section are environmentally isolated from one another. However, the first seal is substantially optically neutral. An input collimator unit received within the first end of the sidewall of the housing and into the first section and is releasably coupled thereto. An output collimator unit received within the second end of the sidewall of the housing and into the second section and is also releasably coupled thereto.

Sealed beam coupler for an isolated environment

A portable laser head has a single-piece holder configured with a plurality of spaced-apart nests. The nests are arranged to receive at least a non-linear frequency converter, a V-shaped beam splitter and a dump collimator. Alternatively, the holder has multiple nests configured to receive an input collimator and output focusing optics unit in addition to the non-linear frequency converter, V-shaped beam splitter and dump collimator. The holder is characterized by small dimensions allowing for self-alignment of the above-referred components.

Portable laser head

An epoxy-free collimator assembly is configured with a ferrule and a lens operative to move within an outer case to a desired position therebetween. The collimator assembly further has an aligning component made from soft, malleable material which is capable of filling out the radial space between the ferrule and case so as to spatially fix the aligned fiber held in the ferrule and lens in the desirable position.

Collimator

A box culvert and gasket assembly is provided that enables fluid-tight bell-and spigot joints to be formed between abutting ends of box culverts. The joints according to the assembly of the present invention can remain fluid-tight up to at least 13 psi of water pressure. The gasket is preferably a one-piece, endless rubber gasket that is applied over the end of a spigot that is rectangular in end elevation. The corners of the rectangular spigot are rounded to enable the gasket to extend continuously over the corner without the need for 45&#xb0; cuts and splices. Preferably, the gasket is made from a single elongate gasket piece that is cut to size and that has ends that are bonded together via a butt vulcanization technique. A storm drain and sewer assembly and a method of forming a fluid-tight bell-and spigot joint are also provided.

Fluid-tight bell-and-spigot-joint for box culverts

Apparatus, methods, and systems are described for lifting a read/write head in a digital tape system. Headlift systems according to the present invention include a guide pin that is an element of a stepper motor, a bracket coupled with the head, and a shaft-linking element. Such headlift systems provide reduced headlift error tolerances, and can therefore accurately place the head for reading and writing to smaller width data tracks on the tape. The bracket is configured to mate with the guide pin and to couple with a stepper motor rotational shaft. A motor according to the present invention includes a stepping motor, a shaft, and a guide pin. A bracket according to the invention includes a head mating surface, an arm, and typically includes a guide pin bushing. The arm includes a first opening aligned to receive the shaft, and a second opening aligned to receive the guide pin. The guide pin bushing is disposed in the second opening and is coupled with the guide pin to limit movement of the head radially and circumferentially relative to the shaft.

Apparatus and systems for lifting a tape drive transducer head

A flexible gasket connecting a plastic or fiberglass pipe in fluid communication with a plastic or fiberglass septic tank. The gasket is an integrally molded elastomer having an annular base with a flange and keeper portions extending radially outward from the base forming a continuous groove sealing around the periphery of an opening in the tank. The keeper portion is tapered axially to enable the gasket to be pushed into the tank opening and snap-fitted into position. A web portion extends inwardly from the middle of the base portion and terminates in a toroidal portion to provide a primary sealing function of the gasket, and the toroidal portion provides a secondary sealing. The added pressure produced by the toroidal portion significantly strengthens the total seal while retaining residual resilience to allow relative movement of the tank and pipe.

Septic tank gasket

Apparatus including an elastomeric gasket and a rigid holder therefor for resiliently connecting a sewer pipe in the wall opening of a concrete manhold to prevent leakage through the connection under extreme conditions of ground settling and overhead loading. The base of the gasket is anchored in the opening with its interior surface in flush alignment with diverging surfaces of the wall opening and having an inside diameter substantially corresponding to the outside diameter of the pipe for a press fit. The holder is preassembled with the gasket for casting of a port in a wall in situ.

Pipe seal for concrete structures

Prefabricated concrete pipe encasements are disclosed for stabilizing underground conduit systems from movement caused by flotation, back filling or settling. In one embodiment, a sewer chimney includes a plastic riser connected between a tee-fitting in a sewer main and a cap block at a branch service line. At least one pipe encasement and a prefabricated concrete base encircles the riser for maintaining alignment with the tee-fitting. In other embodiments the pipe encasement encircles a generally horizontal pipe line.

A symmetrical elastomeric seal for providing a fluid-tight joint in the annular space between the spigot of one pipe and the bell of an adjoining pipe. The gasket includes tapered ribs projecting from an annular web with their peripheries forming a continuous raised rim. The ribs are symmetrically tapered about axially-spaced parallel planes. A clamp may be installed between adjacent ribs to positively secure the gasket on the spigot. The hardness of the elastomer in the web relative to the ribs may vary according to the fluid pressure of the joint.

Symmetrical gasket for pipe joints

A gasket particularly suited for providing a leak resistant, deflection tolerant seal for a bell and spigot type of pipe coupling is provided. The gasket comprises a rubber web having a plurality of identical sealing ribs projecting radially inward in axially spaced relation. Each rib has an enlarged tapered base portion and a narrow finger portion which inclines inwardly and axially therefrom in cantilever fashion and which terminates in a tip spaced radially from the base of an axially adjacent rib. The finger portions are deflected into engagement with their adjacent sealing ribs when the spigot portion of one pipe is inserted axially into the bell portion of the other in which the gasket is mounted. The sealing ring prevent leakage even when the coupled pipes are misaligned slightly.

Forgiving profile pipe gasket

A gasket which is particularly suited for sealing the annular space between a pipe and a port in an underground structure is disclosed. The gasket comprises a hollow annular ring which surrounds the pipe and is connected by a narrow neck to a base at least partially embedded in the underground structure. The base has means extending around its outer periphery to mount the seal securely in the manhole and to provide a block against water seepage across the periphery of the gasket.
