Architectures and techniques are described to provide personal remote storage space for electronic content items acquired (e.g., purchased) by a user of a client device. In some cases, as part of a transaction to acquire the electronic content item, an individual may receive an option that is selectable to indicate a preference to send electronic content items acquired by the individual to a personal remote storage space of the individual. When the option to store the electronic content item in the personal remote storage space is not selected by the individual, the electronic content item may be provided directly to a designated computing device of the individual.

Personal remote storage for purchased electronic content items

An application architecture comprises one or more audio interfaces placed within the premises of users. A cloud-based application engine receives audio information from the interfaces and provides information to cloud-based applications based on the audio within the user premises. The other applications utilize the information to provide or enhance services to the users.

Audio-based application architecture

Customers in an electronic environment can be presented with the option to receive advertising, such as audio, video, or interactive content, in order to receive discounted pricing or similar benefits. In one embodiment, a customer can select to watch a video advertisement on a detail page for an item, and the displayed price for the item will be shown to decrease as the customer continues to watch the video. Such an approach enables the provider to obtain additional revenue from the advertisement, which can offset any loss or reduction in price of the item. Revenue can be generated in other ways using these ads, such as by displaying advertisements that will enable a customer to obtain lower prices on other items, such as accessories or services relating to an item that is determined to be of little or no profit for the provider.

Content-based price reductions and incentives

Adding interactive objects to content having a timeline at user-identified positions in the timeline. During subsequent rendering of the content, the interactive objects are presented to a user at the identified positions. The interactive objects represent an opportunity for the user to render additional content or perform a transaction. In an embodiment, compensation is generated as a result of performance of the transaction.

Annotating content with interactive objects for transactions

Disclosed are various embodiments that provide file system merchandising. A file service maintains file systems associated with file service accounts. When accessing content of the file system through a network page, the network page includes a merchandising recommendation that is based at least in part upon characteristic information associated with the requested content. The merchandising recommendation may also be based at least in part upon account behavior history associated with the file service account. A link may be included in the merchandising recommendation to initiate previewing of at least a portion of a recommended item and/or to initiate acquisition of the recommended item.
