A filter cartridge includes a one-piece housing having a port and a filtration element disposed in the housing. The filtration element is a coherent filter block that can be larger in cross dimension than the port. The filtration element can be a coherent filter block that generally conforms to the shape of the hollow interior, but is slightly smaller than the hollow interior so as to define a gap between the filtration element and the inner surface. One method for constructing a filter cartridge includes providing a housing having a hollow interior and at least one port, introducing a granular material into the hollow interior via the port, and transforming the granular material in the hollow material into a coherent filter block. Another method for constructing a filter cartridge includes providing a filtration element in the form of a coherent filter block, and overmolding a housing around the filtration element.

Filter cartridge and method of construction thereof

Disclosed is a unique filter assembly for ensuring replacement cartridge compatibility in filtration systems having replaceable filter cartridges with lugged mounting systems. One representative filter assembly includes a representative cartridge member having a body portion for enclosing filter media and a neck portion depending therefrom. The representative neck portion of the representative cartridge includes at least one axial inlet port for directing unfiltered fluid into the body portion and at least one axial outlet port for directing filtered fluid out of the body portion. The representative neck portion also has at least two representative lugs depending radially outwardly therefrom, wherein at least one lug defines a keyed surface formation.

Keyed filter assembly

A valve assembly is disclosed for use in conjunction with a replaceable filter cartridge system. The valve assembly includes a head member having an interior valve chamber defining a central axis, and inlet and outlet passages extending parallel to and communicating with the interior valve chamber. The valve assembly further includes a valve member having an inlet path and an outlet path, adapted for rotation within the interior valve chamber of the head member between a filter position wherein the inlet path of the valve member is in communication with the inlet passage of the head member and a bypass position wherein the inlet path of the valve member is out of communication with the inlet passage of the head member. The valve assembly further includes a seal member seated in an upper surface of the valve member and positioned to seal against an opposing surface of the interior valve chamber. The seal member sealingly isolates untreated and treated fluid streams flowing through the inlet and outlet paths of the valve member, respectively, when the valve member is in the filter position, and sealingly isolates the inlet and outlet passages of the head member from the atmosphere when the valve member is in the bypass position to permit fluid to flow therebetween.

Rotary valve assembly for fluid filtration system

A filter assembly is disclosed including a cartridge member having a body portion and a cylindrical neck portion depending from the body portion, the neck portion having at least one lug depending radially outwardly therefrom having a keyed surface formation thereon, and a reception member defining an axial bore for receiving the neck portion of the cartridge member, the bore having at least one reception area provided therein for receiving the at least one lug, the reception area having a compatible mating surface formation defined therein for engaging the keyed surface formation on the lug so as to prevent engagement with an incompatible cartridge member.

Disclosed is a unique filter assembly for ensuring replacement cartridge compatibility in filtration systems having replaceable filter cartridges with lugged mounting systems. One representative filter assembly includes a representative cartridge member having a body portion for enclosing filter media and a neck portion depending therefrom. The representative neck portion of the representative cartridge includes at least one axial inlet port for directing unfiltered fluid into the body portion and at least one axial outlet port for directing filtered fluid out of the body portion. The representative neck portion also has at least two representative lugs depending radially outwardly therefrom, wherein at least one lug defines a keyed engagement surface, a leading inclined cam surface and a trailing inclined cam surface. The at least two representative lugs wherein at least one lug defines a keyed engagement surface, a leading inclined cam surface and a trailing inclined cam surface could be operatively positioned on other components of the representative filter assembly as well.

A filter cartridge configured to provide two or more levels of fluid filtration or conditioning from within a single filter cartridge is disclosed, the filter cartridge including a housing that defines an interior cavity and has an inlet portion for receiving fluid into the cavity, a first outlet portion for discharging fluid from the housing, and a second outlet portion for discharging fluid from the housing. The filter cartridge also includes a first stage filter disposed within the interior cavity for conditioning fluid passing therethrough, the first stage filter in fluid communication with the inlet portion and the first outlet portion by way of a first flow path, and a second stage filter disposed within the interior cavity of the housing for conditioning fluid passing therethrough, the second stage filter in fluid communication with the inlet portion and the second outlet portion by way of a second flow path.

Dual-flow filter cartridge

A combination filter element comprising a bundle of hollow microporous fibers housed within an extruded carbon block, wherein the carbon block is fabricated to balance particle retention capacity against absorption capacity to provide a composite filter with desirable pressure drop, filter life, and particulate and chemical contamination reduction, and a filtration device, in which combination filter element may be employed, having a base portion including a sump which has an inlet and an outlet and a base which has a reception port for receiving the filter element.

Composite filter element

An ink containment and dispensing device for an ink-jet printer is provided with a main reservoir in the form of a flexible pouch, which is typically maintained at ambient pressure. The main reservoir is coupled to a variable volume chamber via a one-way valve which allows the flow of ink from the reservoir to the chamber and prevents the flow of ink from the chamber to the reservoir. The chamber is coupled to a fluid outlet, which is normally closed to prevent the outward flow of ink. However, when the ink supply is installed in a printer, the fluid outlet establishes a fluid connection between the chamber and the printer. The chamber is part of a pump provided with the ink supply that can be actuated to supply ink from the reservoir to the printer. The pump has a linearly acting pumping member and a flexible diaphragm that overlies the pumping member, the diaphragm being impervious to the transmission of oxygen and moisture therethrough to prevent degradation of the ink within the chamber. The flexible pouch is contained within a rigid, outer shell having an opposed pair of shorter sides interspersed with an opposed pair of longer sides, and the shorter sides of the shell, in the region of the closed end of a cup-shaped shell, are configured for grasping and for identifying the location of the closed end of the shell.

Liquid containment and dispensing device with improved position

An additive dispensing apparatus for a fluid system is disclosed which includes a head having a body portion adapted and configured for fluid communication with the fluid system and having a flow path extending therethrough. A fluid inlet portion of the flow path defines a relatively high pressure region and a fluid outlet portion of the flow path defines a relatively low pressure region. A canister is operatively associated with the body portion and structure is provided for facilitating fluid communication between the fluid inlet portion and the interior of the canister. A collapsible container is disposed within the canister for containing a liquid additive for dispensement into the fluid system and structure is provided for facilitating fluid communication between the collapsible container and the fluid outlet portion, whereby the differential pressure between the interior of the canister and the interior of the collapsible container effectuates a proportional dispensement of liquid additive into the fluid system.

Additive dispensing apparatus

An encapsulated filter cartridge assembly is disclosed which is adapted and configured for reception within an elongated cartridge housing of a filtration system. The filter cartridge assembly includes an elongated filtration element, a connector head positioned adjacent an upper end portion of the filtration element, an outer shell extending axially from the connector head and encapsulating the filtration element, and an expansion joint integrally formed in the outer shell to facilitate expansion of the outer shell within the elongated cartridge housing.

Expandable encapsulated filter cartridge assembly

A pump dispenser has a nozzle body on which is rotatably disposed a nozzle cap having two orifices which selectively align with a swirl chamber formed in the front end of the body. One orifice is formed with a surrounding cup-like structure to retain the last drop of liquid after discharge. The other is formed with a pair of diagonal parallel ribs on opposite sides of the orifice to effect an elongated narrow landing pattern for the spray.

Nozzle for pump dispensers

A pump dispenser has a body defined by a top wall and a front end and a nozzle cap rotatably mounted on the body. The cap, which must be rotated for the nozzle to operate, has an opening in a side wall thereof adjacent the front end. An elongate blocking tab has a rear portion unitary with and connected to said top wall, and a middle portion extends forwardly from the rear portion and is disposed in the opening in the nozzle cap. The tab also has a forward finger-grippable portion extending forward from said middle portion. The middle portion, by being in the opening, prevents rotary movement of the nozzle cap until the blocking tab is torn from the top wall.
