A digital printing apparatus comprising a developing roller () and an image carrying roller (); the developing roller () being arranged to transfer liquid toner () onto the image carrying roller () in accordance with a charge pattern; an upstream charger () upstream of an area () of rotational contact between the developing roller () and the image carrying roller (); a downstream discharger () downstream of the area (); a sensor () downstream of the area () to detect a property representative of the charge of a liquid toner residue; and a controller () to receive sensor data from the sensor () and to provide a control signal to control the downstream discharger.

Digital printing system with improved toner removal

A web alignment method and apparatus for a printing system that includes a friction drive, wherein the alignment device provides one or more of the following: a) a stable medium path with reduced web-walk, b) an alignment system that is not sensitive to the mechanical alignment of an upstream device such as a roll unwinder, c) an alignment system having a lower complexity and lower cost than active controlled systems, and d) an alignment system that is compatible with a wide range of media, ranging from lightweight papers (for example 60 gsm) to heavyweight stock (such as 300 gsm) including high weight high gloss coated grades. The alignment device includes an arrangement for supporting the web in an arcuate form between adjustable side guides.

Device and method to feed and align a web with increased web stability for printing

A cleaning device, being part of a copying or printing system, for removing residual developer from the surface of an image-delivering member is described. The device includes a cleaning brush in rolling contact with the surface of the image-delivering member for removing residual developer therefrom. A biased collecting roller is in rolling contact with the revolving brush. The collecting roller is biased such as to attract the residual developer from the cleaning brush and to collect it onto its surface. A trailing cleaning blade has a forward end portion in frictional contact with the collecting roller. The trailing cleaning blade is in contact with the cleaning roller at a contact position where the collecting roller is moving in an upward direction. Also disclosed is a method for removing developer from a surface of an image-delivering member.

Printer cleaning device

A plurality of electrostatic images are formed on a moving tensioned belt formed with an electrically conductive base having a non-conductive image-carrying surface layer. The images are developed by passing the belt through toner development stations, each of which includes a development unit including a magnetic roller and a backing member, in opposed position to the magnetic roller, over which the belt passes. Under non-ideal conditions, the image quality in terms of image density and uniformity of image density and rendition of sharp image transitions, is substantially improved by applying an alternating electrical field between the magnetic roller and the belt, with a peak-to-peak voltage greater than 800 volts.

An electrostatic developing device comprising feed passages (54, 58) for a two-component developer, a hopper (43) for adding fresh toner to the developer to maintain its concentration at a desired level, and a mixer with a vertical helical mixer screw (63) rotatable in a stationary housing (42) and a sleeve (65) surrounding the screw in the housing, an annular space (69) being left between the sleeve and the housing allowing developer transported upwardly by the mixer screw within the sleeve to return via the annular space to the lower end of the screw and then become circulated upwardly again.

A xerographic developing device for depositing xerographic toner upon an image carrying medium without the use of toner carrier beads which includes an applicator roller for transferring toner from a tray towards the image carrying medium via a scraper element mounted at the exit opening of the tray. Improved regulation of the quantity of toner transferred in this manner is achieved by applying a DC-voltage potential between the applicator roller and the scraper.
