A method for anonymizing user identifiable information to be transmitted outside of a local network includes generating a network entity hash input based on (i) a first MAC address assigned to a client station of the local network, (ii) a second MAC address assigned to the network gateway device of the local network, and (iii) an identifier of a cloud entity of an external network to which data of the client station is to be transmitted. The method further includes generating a hash value output based on the network entity hash input and a random token value using a hashing function, generating an anonymized MAC address associated with the client station based on the hash value output, and transmitting the anonymized MAC address associated with the client station to the cloud entity of the external network.

Equipment can have indicators (audio, visual, etc.) that a human would have difficulty interpreting correctly. Since the information observed by the mobile device is unidirectional (from the equipment to the mobile device) there is no increased security risk.

The diagnostic process can include retrieving a testing hierarchy associated with a received diagnostic command, executing the lowest-level diagnostic in the testing hierarchy, successively executing the remaining diagnostics in the testing hierarchy in the order implicated by the hierarchy until the commanded diagnostic is executed, and identifying the service-affecting issues found.

A fax-only setting identifies a value that is used as a counter of a timer. Upon initiating or receiving a call at an endpoint with which the fax-only MIB value is associated, a user device that provides the endpoint begins a timer based on the setting. During the timer period processing circuitry and/or software of the user device associated with the endpoint determines whether a tone generated/received by a call being initiated/received includes a data signal. If the device determines that such a data signal has been generated/received, a call corresponding to the data signal is processed. If the device does not determine that a data signal has been generated/received, the call being initiated or received at the endpoint is dropped.
