An optical fiber cable is provided. The optical fiber cable includes an outer jacket having an outer surface defining an outermost surface of the optical fiber cable and an inner surface defining a central bore. The optical fiber cable includes a plurality of aramid fibers located in the central bore, and the plurality of aramid fibers have a relatively low total linear density. The optical fiber cable includes at least one optical fiber located within the central bore, and the at least one optical fiber has a proof test of greater than 100 kpsi.

Jumper cables with high tensile performance and low acidity

An optical fiber cable that includes subunits is provided. The cable has an outer jacket having a thickness of at least 2.0 millimeters and that is made from a fire retardant polymer material having a PHRR value of 222 kw/mwhen tested in a cone calorimeter measured according to ASTM E1354 with a heat flux of 50 kW/m. The cable meets the requirement of UL 1666 burn test for riser cables and the requirements of EN 50399 burn test for CPR class Ccables.

Flexible indoor/outdoor high-fiber-count cable

An optical fiber cable is provided. The optical fiber cable includes an outer jacket having an outer surface defining an outermost surface of the optical fiber cable and an inner surface defining a central bore. The optical fiber cable includes a plurality of aramid fibers located in the central bore, and the plurality of aramid fibers have a relatively low total linear density such that a total linear density of all aramid fibers within the central bore is less than 10,000 dtex. The optical fiber cable includes at least one optical fiber located within the central bore, and the at least one optical fiber has a proof test of greater than 100 kpsi.

High tensile strength fiber optic cable with low levels of aramid fiber

Embodiments of an optical fiber cable are provided. The optical fiber cable includes an outer jacket, an inner jacket, a porous insulating layer, and at least one optical fiber. The outer jacket has a first thickness between its inner surface and its outer surface. The inner jacket has a second thickness between its inner surface and its outer surface. The inner jacket is disposed within the outer jacket. The porous insulating layer is disposed between the inner jacket and the outer jacket. The porous insulating layer is configured to reduce the transfer of heat to the inner jacket during combustion of the outer jacket. The optical fiber is disposed within the inner jacket. In the optical fiber cable, the first thickness is less than the second thickness, and each of the outer jacket and the inner jacket include at least one flame retardant additive.

Fire resistant cable having two jackets separated by porous insulating layer

An optical fiber cable including a central strength member extending along a longitudinal axis of the optical fiber cable and a plurality of buffer tubes that are wound around the central strength member. Each of the plurality of buffer tubes includes a first material having a modulus of elasticity of at most 600 MPa at room temperature and a peak heat release rate (PHRR) of at most 300 kW/mas measured according to ASTM E1354. A cable jacket is disposed circumferentially around the plurality of buffer tubes and extends along the longitudinal axis.

Flame retardant buffer tubes for loose tube cables

A fiber optic cable includes a cable jacket having an outer surface defined by a cable jacket outer diameter Jand an inner surface defined by a cable jacket inner diameter J; a plurality N of optical fibers, where N&#x2265;4, contained within the cable jacket and positioned a distance away from the cable jacket inner diameter, with each optical fiber having a core, a cladding surrounding the core, and at least one coating surrounding the core with the at least one coating having an outer coating diameter less than or equal to about 200 microns and wherein the cable jacket outer diameter Jis less than or equal to 1 mm.

Small diameter fiber optic cables having low-friction cable jackets and optical fibers with reduced cladding and coating diameters

An optical fiber cable including a central strength member extending along a longitudinal axis of the optical fiber cable and a plurality of buffer tubes that are wound around the central strength member. Each of the plurality of buffer tubes includes a first material having a modulus of elasticity of at most 600 MPa at room temperature and a peak heat release rate (PHRR) of at most 300 kW/mas measured according to ASTM E1354. Further, each of the plurality of buffer tubes has an inner surface that defines a central bore, and at least one optical fiber is disposed in each central bore in a loose-tube configuration. A cable jacket is disposed circumferentially around the plurality of buffer tubes and extends along the longitudinal axis. A laylength of the plurality of buffer tubes that are wound around the central strength member is from 200 mm to 400 mm.

An optical communication cable is provided. The optical communication cable includes a cable jacket and a plurality of optical fiber subunits surrounded by the cable jacket. Each optical fiber subunit includes a subunit jacket and a plurality of optical fibers located within the subunit passage. Each optical fiber includes an outer polymer buffer coating, such as a tight buffer coating. The outer cable jacket and/or the outer polymer buffer coating of the optical fibers is formed from a halogen containing polymer material including a fire retardant material, and the subunit jacket is formed from a polyolefin polymer material including a fire retardant material.

Fire retardant and low-smoke optical communications cable

An optical communication cable bundle is provided. The cable bundle includes a bundle jacket having an inner surface defining a bundle passage and an outer surface defining an exterior surface of the cable bundle, and a plurality of optical fiber subunits located within the bundle passage and surrounded by the bundle jacket, each optical fiber subunit having a subunit jacket defining a subunit passage and a plurality of optical fibers located with the subunit passage. A thickness of the bundle jacket is less than a thickness of each of the subunit jackets and the bundle jacket is extruded tight around the subunit jackets to couple the subunits and the bundle jacket.

Optical fiber bundle

An optical cable assembly is provided. The cable assembly includes a plurality of subunits surrounded by an outer cable jacket, a furcation unit and optical connectors coupled to the end of each of the subunits. Each of the subunits includes an inner jacket, a plurality of optical fibers; and a tensile strength element. The first tensile strength element and the inner jackets of each subunits are coupled to the furcation unit, and the optical fibers and tensile strength elements of each subunit extend through the furcation unit without being coupled to the furcation unit. The subunit tensile strength element and optical fibers of each subunit are balanced such that both experience axial loading applied to the assembly and, under various loading conditions, the compression of the subunits is controlled and/or the axial loading of the optical fibers is limited to allow proper function of the optical connector.

Optical fiber cable and assembly

An optical communication cable is provided. The optical communication cable includes an outer cable layer and a plurality of optical fiber bundles surrounded by the outer cable laver. Each optical fiber bundle includes a bundle jacket surrounding a plurality of optical fiber subunits located within the bundle passage. The plurality of optical subunits are wrapped around each other within the bundle passage forming a wrapped pattern. Each optical fiber subunit includes a subunit jacket surrounding a elongate optical fiber located within the subunit passage. The cable jacket, bundle jacket and subunit jacket may be fire resistant, and strength strands of differing lengths may be located in the bundles and the subunits.

Optical fiber cable

Fiber optic bundles include helically stranded subunit cables. The assemblies have small cross sections and low bend radii while maintaining acceptable attenuation losses. Binders can be omitted to improve ease of processing and installation. Helically stranding of the subunit cables allows ease of access to the individual cables during installation.

Optical fiber cable bundle

A multicore optical fiber with a reference section having a material defining a marked multicore glass optical fiber. The multicore fibers can be in groupings, for example, the groupings can be in the form of one of an optical fiber ribbon covered by a matrix, and a tight buffered cable. Fiber optic connectors can be assembled to the multicore optical fiber at either or both ends, and the colored portion can be associated with the optical fiber connector aligning the optical core elements with the optical connectors. The assembly can have at least one transceiver device with a transmit port and a receive port defining a two-way communication channel. Further aspects describe methods of manufacturing multicore fibers including application of curable coatings and reference sections.
