A path-illuminating wall-mountable light fixture () can comprise a wall-mountable support platform () that is configured and arranged to be installed on a wall () and at least a first light aperture () that is operably coupled to the wall-mountable support platform. This first light aperture is configured and arranged so that electrically-sourced light () emanating from the first light aperture is directed in a first direction that is substantially parallel to the wall, substantially non-perpendicular to the wall, and less than horizontal. When inclusive of a second such light aperture (), the second light aperture can offer similarly oriented emanated light in a direction that is substantially the opposite of this first direction. By one approach, the light emanating from this (or these) light aperture(s) can be responsive to an animate object detector ().

Wall-mountable light fixture providing light having a particular directionality

A light fixture () comprises a mounting fixture () that is configured and arranged to facilitate mounting the light fixture to a mounting surface other than ground along with at least a first light socket () and a plurality of permanently mounted light emitting diodes (LED's) (). The light socket and the LED's are supported by the mounting fixture. The LED's are configured in an array and are oriented towards the mounting surface when the light fixture is installed on the mounting surface. This light fixture can further comprise an ambient light sensor (), an animate object detector (), and/or a timer (). The wall-washing LED's can be switched on and off automatically () to provide the desired decorative effect during the evening hours. In addition, the light socket can be rendered controllable () as a function of whether it is dark out and whether an animate object has been detected.

Method and apparatus for a light fixture having a security light and permanently mounted wall-washing LEDs

A sensor circuit for remotely commanding the operation of a remote device includes a motion sensor circuit for detecting motion relative thereto and having an output conditioned upon motion detection. Additionally, a photocell sensor circuit for detecting a low ambient illumination level has an output command conditioned upon the detection of a predetermined illumination level that is electrically coupled to a control circuit having a plurality of inputs. The invention further includes a data output comprising a remote device operation command and a transmitter circuit coupled to the data output of said control circuit for transmitting said operation command to a remote device.

A surface-mountable light fixture () can comprise a base () that is configured and arranged to be mounted in an installed position juxtaposed against a mounting surface (). At least one light source interface () that requires mains electricity is contained within this base. This base further comprises an access port () formed therein which, when opened while the base is mounted in an installed position on the mounting surface, provides end user access to electrical conductors for the light source interface(s) as well as the mains electricity (). This base then also further comprises a lockable cover () that is configured and arranged to selectively and reversibly seal the access port to deny end user access to the electrical conductors.

Surface-mountable light fixture having an access port and corresponding method and kit

A light fixture () comprises a base () and at least a first arm () having a first end () that couples to this base. A housing () then couples to the second end () of this first arm and can serve to house both a light source () (such that emanated light will tend to be directed towards a primary area of coverage) and an animate object detector () (such that the latter will be aimed towards, and will tend to be sensitive to, objects that move within the primary area of coverage). By one approach, this arm couples to the base and/or the housing in a manner that permits an end user to adjust a position of the housing with respect to the base without requiring any hand tools. The housing can comprise a heat sink () if desired.

A method and circuit arrangement dynamically calibrate a photosensitive control for a light source that includes a voltage divider circuit coupled to a resistive light detector and configured to output to a comparison circuit a variable voltage signal that varies with the resistance of the resistive light detector. To calibrate the photosensitive control, a variable impedance circuit in the voltage divider circuit is adjusted to null out any changes in voltage caused by feedback from the controlled light source. The amount of correction is proportional to the amount of light feedback. Based on the amount of correction needed, a new reference voltage is selected that will accurately detect the next dusk to dawn transition while the light feedback is present.

Photosensitive control with dynamic calibration

A motion sensing system is disclosed having a housing or mounting, a sensor, a shield and a cover. A spacer and a printed circuit board may also be included. The cylindrical shaped sensor is placed within the cup shaped shield with the spacer disposed between the sensor and the printed circuit board. The shield and the printed circuit board are then fastened together. Next, the bottom or nose of the mounting shield is placed into the dish shaped cover and the combination is fastened to the housing with the cover extending into an opening in the bottom wall of the housing. The system allows a downward looking motion sensing capability in addition to the typical forward sensing capability which may also be installed in the housing. The housing may then be connected to a security lighting fixture. An even simpler version is a motion sensing system having a simple mounting for a two transducer PIR sensor where one of the transducers is covered and a Fresnel lens is absent. An effective short range motion detector results and the sensor may be aimed in any direction.
