To sense the level of light in the passenger compartment 7 of an elevator cab 8, light at the proximal end of an optical fiber 4 is monitored by an optical detector 25 feeding a variable voltage divider 18, which allows setting a trip point at a desired level of light within the passenger compartment, thereby providing a signal indicating whether the light is adequate or not to a remote elevator monitoring apparatus 23. The trip point may be selected on installation by adjusting a potentiometer while watching an optical indication 17 of reaching the trip point, or it may be determined by software routines.

A synchronous counter circuit having a plurality of bit counting stages, each corresponding to a bit position for representing counts, from a least significant bit to a most significant bit. Each bit counting stage includes a flip-flip circuit and a synchronization circuit and each includes circuitry for receiving a pulse train clock signal, synchronously counting said clock signal and outputting an output bit signal corresponding to said counters' stage bit position. The bit counting stages are arranged in two groups, a reset group and a counting group, such that the output bit signal of said flip-flop circuit of the reset group synchronizes data propagation between each bit counting stage of the counting group.

Typically, a disc brake the caliper assembly is mounted by a pair of specially configured mounting bolts to a cast-iron steering knuckle. In many models, the bolts are threadingly engaged with a steering knuckle or similar support structure in order to retain the bolts in place. To remove the caliper assembly, the two caliper mounting bolts are removed. However, in many instances, during servicing of the disc brakes, the threads within one of the apertures defined in the steering knuckle become stripped. A caliper mounting replacement bolt is provided having oversized self-tapping threads and an associated aperture for auxiliary retention. The inventive replacement bolt is used in place of the original caliper mounting bolt to enable reinstallation of the brake caliper assembly onto the steering knuckle in a quick and efficient manner. During the installation thereof, the inventive mounting bolt cuts a new thread into the steering knuckle aperture. In addition to the threading engagement with the steering knuckle, auxiliary bolt retention is provided, preferably, via use of a cotter pin.

Disc brake repair means and method

One-piece garter spring coupling release tool. The release tool is molded in a single selectively configured shape out of a durable, flexible plastic material such as Elastollan.TM. S98A available from Elastogran of Germany. The release tool generally comprises a cylindrical body with a slot along its length and a flange on one end. The slot permits the tool to be positioned around a port to which a garter spring coupling is connected; the flange provides an area for gripping the tool to releasably engage the tool with its coupling. The flexible, slotted configuration of the garter spring coupling release tool permits nesting of a four-piece set of such tools within each other to facilitate packaging, storage and retention of the tools as a set.

A method for reducing organic contaminants in a well initially breaks down complex organic compounds by radiation with gamma radiation. The remaining materials are subjected to oxygen radicals in the water, the oxygen radicals reacting with the materials to assist in the degradation. A carrier is formed with a plurality of containers fixed together by struts, and each container has a quantity of radioactive material to provide the radiation. Air, oxygen and or peroxide may be fed to the well to provide enough oxygen to produce the oxygen radicals, or the water may be cavitated to free the oxygen in the water. The apparatus & method may also be adapted with proper shielding for use in surface applications, such as surface water intakes (biofouling by Asiatic clams), general ground water and haz-waste treatment.

Method and apparatus for treating wells

A multiplexer (76) for coupling selected instruction word bits to a microcode memory (22) as entry point addresses. The multiplexer (76) receives sixteen bits from an instruction word register (10) and, for normal word formats, couples the opcode (40) portion unchanged to the memory (22) as an entry point address. For special instruction word formats, various bits of the instruction word fields form an entry point address, while other bits are modified and coupled to memory (22) as column addresses to access selected memory sections.

A method and apparatus for cleaning a well wherein chemicals are applied to the well screen with steam. The well screen may be first washed with a sterilizing agent, and subsequently a chemical mix is added to the steam. The chemical mix includes a sterilizing agent, an acid, and perhaps a surfactant. The well is capped during treatment so the well becomes pressurized; and, the chemical mix is forced out beyond the well screen. The surfactant aids in penetrating the clog, while the sterilizing agent kills any plant or animal life that is causing or contributing to the clog. Some sterilizing agent may remain to prevent regrowth of life forms that may feed on other chemical components. The well may be surged to assist further in breaking up the mass clogging the well.
