A fluid connector with adjustable flow control includes an adapter having a first threaded portion, a sealing surface and an orifice. The fluid connector also includes a valve body having a second threaded portion for engagement with the first threaded portion and a central body passage connected to at least one port. Upon rotation of the valve body relative to the adapter, the port is displaced axially relative to the sealing surface thereby effecting a change in fluid flow through the fluid connector and into or out of the orifice.

A quick disconnect fluid coupling is disclosed. The fluid coupling may be used in, for example, animal watering systems. The fluid coupling includes first and second coupling members. One member has a movable valve which is moved from the valve seat by the stem of the other member upon coupling. A plurality of circumferentially spaced balls are urged inwardly by a constant force spring. The balls are received in a groove of the other member to secure one member to the other.

A quick disconnect coupling for a liquid handling system is disclosed. When disconnected the first and second coupling members are valved closed. The second coupling member includes an adjustable pressure relief feature. By moving an adjustment member, the operating pressure for the pressure relief can be varied and set at a desired level.

A restrictor valve functions as an outlet valve in a metered liquid dispensing system and utilizes a spring biased, shiftable anti-siphon check valve to prevent fluid flow back from the receiving tank into the system. The restrictor valve is attached to the delivery end of the system discharge hose. The dispensing system is controlled by a central electronic unit and the restrictor valve includes a sensing unit for signalling the electronic control when liquid is present at the outlet. The restrictor valve is connected to the receiving tank by a low spill coupling to minimize escape of the liquid into the environment. The restrictor valve may also include a vacuum breaker valve which admits air into the discharge hose when the system pump is run in reverse to remove the prime from the discharge hose.

A coupling assembly for connecting two members that includes an annular locking ring. The assembly further includes a first member and a second member. The first member has an exterior surface having a groove for receiving the locking means. The second member has an inner surface having a cavity for receiving the locking means. The first and second members are secured together when the locking ring is engaged in the groove and the cavity.

A quick disconnect fluid coupling for a liquid-cooled, preprogrammed card for an aircraft communication or navigation system, the coupling being made up of male and female coupling elements which are closed to flow in the free or uncoupled state and which are open to flow when coupled. The male coupling element has an integral pressure relief feature which operates in two phases. In a first phase the male coupling element remains closed to fluid flow, but accommodates an increase in fluid pressure by movement of an annular valve sleeve within an outer annular member to increase the fluid volume within the annular member. In a second phase an end of a valve member of the male coupling element is biased away from sealing engagement with an end of the annular valve sleeve by fluid pressure, against the biasing effect of a return spring which is trapped between the annular valve sleeve and a perforate annular retainer that is affixed to an opposed end of the valve member, to permit fluid to be dumped from the coupling element.

A quick disconnect coupling for a liquid line, the coupling having male and female coupling elements each of which is closed to flow in an uncoupled state and opened to flow when coupled. The male coupling element is made up of an outer annular member and an annular body which is positioned within the annular member and which is slidable with respect thereto, an annular retainer being positioned concentrically between the annular member and the annular body and being affixed to the annular member to be non-slidable with respect thereto. The annular body is resiliently biased against an internal shoulder of the annular member by a wave spring which is trapped between an external shoulder of the annular body and an inturned flange of the annular retainer, A valve member is positioned within the annular body and is slidable with respect thereto. The valve member has an imperforate outer end which closes the annular body to fluid flow in its most advanced position, to which it is biased in an uncoupled condition of the male coupling element by a coil spring. A condition of excessive pressure within the uncoupled male coupling element will cause the valve member and the annular body to move in unison with respect to the anhular member and the annular retainer, against the biasing effect of the wave spring, to thereby increase the internal volume of the coupling element ahd relieve a condition of excessive pressure therein.

A frangible fluid conduit fitting particularly suitable for servicing aircraft wherein the fitting is attached to an aircraft service bulkhead coupling. The fitting consists of two parts, one attached to the supply hose and the other attachable to the bulkhead coupling. The fitting parts are maintained in a sealed assembly relationship by a frangible connector having two separate frangible sections. One frangible section fracturing and releasing the fitting parts under excessive bending forces while the other frangible structure releases upon excessive tension forces being imposed upon the fitting.

A coupling fitting utilizing radially moving detents operated by an axially displaceable locking sleeve employs a safety lock lever pivotally mounted upon the locking sleeve engagable with a reference surface on the fitting when the locking sleeve is in the locked condition to lock the sleeve and give both a visual and physically discernible indication of the condition of the locking sleeve. The safety lever includes a handle which conforms to the configuration of the locking sleeve when the sleeve is in the release position, and the lever handle extends from the configuration of the locking sleeve in the sleeve lock position. Preferably, two locking safety levers are mounted upon the locking sleeve at diametrically opposed locations.

A ball valve connector of the frangible crashworthy type wherein two fluid flow connector body halves are interconnected by fracturable elements. Each body half includes a ball valve within a flow passage pivotally mounted on diametrically located pins. The pivot pins and valves are capable of displacement in the axial direction of fluid flow to compensate for manufacturing tolerances and provide maximum sealing characteristics. Each valve is rotatable 90.degree. between open and closed positions, and a stop projection defined on each valve cooperates with a spring biased stop ring providing positive retention of the valve in the closed position.

The invention pertains to a conduit assembly consisting of a flexible hose having a self sealing valved fitting at each end, such assembly being suitable for interconnecting aircraft fuel cells. The assembly is crashworthy in that upon displacement of the fittings relative to each other the resultant tension force produced in the hose causes the valves within the fittings to automatically close prior to the rupture of the hose thereby minimizing the likelihood of fuel spillage and fire. Frangible elements within the fittings fracturable upon predetermined hose tension forces existing insure the desired sequence of valve operation without requiring complicated apparatus, cables or links which would interfere with the flexibility of installation.

A self sealing fluid coupling utilizing separable interconnectable fittings wherein valve structure within one of the fittings simultaneously functions as the associated self sealing valve and as a pressure relief valve adapted to open and relieve excessive internal fluid pressure when the fitting is uncoupled. The combination self sealing and relief valve comprises an axially slidable sleeve including a radial surface exposed to internal fluid pressures for producing axial forces on the sleeve which are counteracted by a spring.
