A polymer having a first monomer operatively connected to Rose Bengal, a second monomer, and a surfactant, wherein the surfactant is selected from the group consisting of ionic surfactants, anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants, and mixtures thereof. The Rose Bengal in polymer in an amount effective for rendering the polymer antimicrobial or antiviral upon exposure of said polymer to light; and the polymer produces singlet oxygen from air in the presence of light. Light-activated coating and materials

A filtering system intended to be attached to the water tap in a shower. The system preferably uses two distinct filtering media in order to filter water&#x2014;charcoal and kinetic degradation fluxion ('KDF') media. The present invention preferably includes a bypass valve which allows the user to properly gauge and adjust the temperature of the water prior to passing the water through the filter. The present invention preferably includes two check valves as well. One such check valve is located at the filter entrance, and the other check valve is located at the filter exit. While the shower is activated, the pressure from the water forces each valve open. However, when the shower is not activated, each valve automatically closes (the valves are normally closed valves). The check valve system allows the KDF media to remain in a saturated state, which increases the efficacy and lifespan of the filtering media.

Aminoplast resin compositions

Compositions including from about 1% to about 30% by weight of cationic polyvinyl alcohol graft copolymer in an aqueous solution, pigment, and other binding agents are useful in coatings for ink jet printing of paper, textile and plastic substrates, and also as wet end additives for papermaking. The polyvinyl alcohol has a weight average molecular weight between about 13,000 and about 140,000 and is between about 86 and 100 mole % hydrolyzed.

Cationic polyvinyl alcohol-containing compositions

A polyvinyl alcohol copolymer latex composition comprises an intimate polymer composition obtained from 10% to 60% by weight of a substantially hydrolyzed low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH); 2% to 80% by weight of at least one diene; 2% to 80% by weight of at least one hydrophobic monomer other than a diene and optionally either up to 10% by weight of at least one hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer or up to 40% by weight of a cationic monomer. The copolymer latex composition can be prepared as an emulsion from an aqueous blend of the above listed monomers which are generally added at various stages during the polymerization and a free radical initiator, surfactants, and, if desirable, chain transfer agents. Up to 80% of the PVOH may be added after the monomers have been polymerized.
