A vehicle driveline component having a housing, first and second shafts supported by the housing for rotation about a rotary axis, a two-speed transmission in a power transmission path between the first and second shafts, a shift fork and a failsafe spring. The two-speed transmission has a movable member that is movable along the rotary axis between a high-speed position, in which the two-speed transmission operates in a first gear ratio, and a low-speed position in which the two-speed transmission operates in a second gear ratio that provides a higher speed reduction between the first and second shafts than the first gear ratio. The shift fork is coupled to the movable member for movement therewith along the rotary axis. The failsafe spring is disposed coaxially about the rotary axis and biases the movable member toward the high-speed position.

A lubrication system () for a transfer case () includes a pump () selectively supplying a working fluid to a fluid reservoir of an actuator () configured to apply force to a clutch assembly () to cause the clutch assembly () to move between a disengaged position and an engaged position. The lubrication system also includes a relief valve () having a relief valve inlet fluidly coupled to the fluid reservoir of the actuator () which opens to receive the working fluid based on a threshold pressure level of the working fluid in the fluid reservoir. The lubrication system also includes a trough () fluidly coupled to a relief valve outlet of the relief valve (). The trough () carries the working fluid from the relief valve outlet to a bearing assembly () associated with at least one of an input shaft () and a primary output shaft () of the transfer case () when the clutch assembly () is in the disengaged position.

A transfer case of a motor vehicle drivetrain includes a planetary gear set including a ring gear to receive input torque, and a pinion assembly having pinion gears in mesh with the ring gear and a carrier to carry the pinion gears and transmit output torque. A sun gear is in mesh with the pinion gears, is selectively connectable to the carrier and rotatable therewith in a two-wheel drive mode and in a four-wheel-drive high range mode, and is selectively fixable against rotational motion in a four-wheel drive low range mode.
