A handguard attachment assembly for a firearm is disclosed. The assembly includes a handguard with an elongate structure extending between a first end and a second end, where the handguard has at least one opening proximate the first end. A flange insert is received in an opening on a first side of the handguard and engages the handguard. A fastener secures the flange insert to a connector positioned over the barrel nut. The fastener can be tightened to draw the handguard to the barrel nut. The connector can be a bridge connector positioned on or over the barrel nut within the handguard, or can be a connector with a flange portion that engages the second side of the handguard and has a connector body that extends towards the flange insert on the first side, to name a few examples.

Firearm upper receiver positioning mechanism

A regulator that controls an amount of energy provided to an auto loader for rounds having different gun powder loads is provided. The regulator includes a chamber, and a piston in fluid communication with the chamber. The regulator may further include a throttling valve having a first position in which pressurized combustion gas from the gas port of a barrel of a firearm can flow into the chamber, and a second position in which pressurized combustion gas from the gas port of a barrel of a firearm cannot flow into the chamber. The throttling valve is configured to move from the first position to the second position when pressure in the chamber exceeds a threshold level. The regulator may include an expansion valve in fluid communication with the chamber and arranged to move from a first position to increase a volume of the chamber when pressure in the chamber exceeds a threshold level. The regulator may include a valve including a vent hole, where the valve is in fluid communication with the chamber and is arranged to vent combustion gas from the chamber through the vent hole.

A wear surface assembly configured for use in a firearm receiver is disclosed. The disclosed assembly may include one or more wear surface members configured to be disposed within a receiver such that they physically intervene between the internal sidewalls of the receiver and either (or both) of the bolt carrier and cam pin head. In this manner, the disclosed assembly may serve to concentrate on itself any friction from the bolt carrier and cam pin head which otherwise would produce unwanted wear on the interior sidewalls of the receiver. The disclosed assembly may be configured to provide coverage of the receiver walls for the bolt carrier and cam pin head along the full (or at least partial) length of travel of the bolt carrier. The disclosed assembly further may include one or more retention pins configured to prevent the wear surface member(s) from dislodging from the receiver.

A hand guard-to-barrel clamping system having provisions for internal clamping fasteners is disclosed. A hand guard assembly includes upper and lower members each having bores tangential to a longitudinal axis of the assembly. The bores are arranged such that fasteners can be inserted through the bores for securing the upper and lower members together, thereby clamping the hand guard assembly to the firearm. Such fasteners are internal to the hand guard assembly, which provides a slim design that is easier to hold.

A charging handle that may be assembled to a firearm in either of multiple configurations to enable actuation of the charging handle from either a left hand side or a right hand side of the firearm.

A firearm receiver wear surface is disclosed. When inserted within a corresponding wear surface cavity in a firearm receiver, a wear surface pin contacts and engages with the hook of a charging handle latch. In one example, a wear surface cavity for receiving a wear surface pin may be machined within the upper receiver of a modular rifle. The positioning of the wear surface cavity and wear surface pin can prevent the charging handle latch from contacting and causing unwanted wear on the upper receiver. In some embodiments, the wear surface pin may be a replaceable pin-shaped object made from a more durable material than the material of the upper receiver. For example, the wear surface pin may be a steel coiled spring pin that is pressure-fit into a wear surface cavity in an aluminum alloy upper receiver.

An automatic sear assembly for providing a large-bore rifle with full-automatic firing and/or burst firing capabilities is disclosed. In accordance with some embodiments, the disclosed assembly includes an automatic sear operatively configured with a sear lever which is provided with bidirectional articulation for selectively imparting torque on the automatic sear to cause tripping thereof. For example, the disclosed assembly can be configured such that rotational deflection of the sear lever away from the automatic sear imparts no rotation thereto, whereas rotational deflection of the sear lever toward the automatic sear imparts rotation thereto. Thus, and in accordance with some embodiments, the disclosed sear assembly can be used in a rifle, for example, to utilize the force of a moving bolt carrier during a given firing cycle to initiate a subsequent firing cycle without need to release and once again operate the trigger of the rifle.
