A hydraulic valve assembly for controlling a clutch in a vehicle transmission. The valve assembly includes a housing with a first port for connection to a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, a displaceable sealing piston disposed within the housing, a valve spring for displacing the sealing piston, a snap-spring having first and second equilibrium positions, and an overstroke spring. In the first equilibrium position a spring force displaces the sealing piston to uncover the first port to enable fluid flow through the valve, and in the second equilibrium position the valve spring displaces the sealing piston to block the first port to block fluid flow through the valve. Moving from the first equilibrium position to the second equilibrium position includes displacing the overstroke spring.

Selectable valve assembly for a vehicle transmission

A stator assembly for a torque converter includes first and second blade plates, a one-way clutch assembly disposed axially between the blade plates and a centering plate. The one-way clutch assembly has an inner race with an outer circumferential surface, an outer race with an outer circumferential surface, and a plurality of blocking elements disposed radially between the inner race and the outer race. The centering plate includes a ring portion grippingly engaged with the outer race outer circumferential surface and an annular portion with an inner circumferential surface arranged to radially position the inner race outer circumferential surface. In an example embodiment, at least one of the blade plates is made by stamping.

Stator centering plate

A blade for a stator in a torque converter including: a first blade segment connected to first inner and outer circumferential sections; a second blade segment, separately formed from the first blade segment, connected to second inner and outer circumferential sections, and including first and second portions; and a channel disposed between the first and second blade segments. In a circumferential direction, the first and second portions are separated by the channel.

Shielded stamped stator blade

A torque converter including a cover, a turbine pump in fluid contact with the turbine, and a pump shell connected to the cover. The torque converter includes a pump hub connected to the pump shell such that the pump shell and the pump hub are fixed with respect to rotation. The pump hub also includes a portion with a distal end having a plurality of indentations and a plurality of sloped surfaces in contact with the plurality of indentations. The plurality of sloped surfaces is arranged to receive a plurality of protrusions for a transmission pump gear and to urge the pump hub or the pump gear into rotational motion to urge the plurality of protrusions into mating engagement with the plurality of indentations.

Torque converter pump hub with profiled assembly surface

A radial ratchet one-way clutch, including: at least one inner race having a plurality of indentations on an outer circumferential surface; at least one outer race having a plurality of indentations on an inner circumferential surface; and a plurality of engagement elements having respective first segments. The engagement elements are assembled with a bias so that the first segments are urged against the inner race. For rotation of the outer race in a locking direction, respective first segments for at least a portion of the engagement elements are engageable with respective indentations from the pluralities of indentations to rotationally lock the inner and outer races. For rotation of the outer race in a free-wheel direction, opposite the locking direction, the respective first segments are slidable across the outer circumferential surface to enable independent rotation of the outer race with respect to the at least one inner race.

Radial ratchet one-way clutch

A blade for a stator in a torque converter, including: a first blade segment connected to an inner circumferential section of the stator; at least one second blade segment, separately formed from the first blade segment, and connected to the inner circumferential section; and a third blade segment, separately formed from the first and second blade segments, and connected to the inner circumferential section. In some aspects, the first, second, and third blade segments include respective outer radial portions and the outer radial portions are fixedly connected. In some aspects, the first and second blade segments are in contact and the second and third blade segments are in contact. In some aspects, the first, second, and third blade segments include respective edges and the first and second blade segments are in contact along the respective edges and the second and third blade segments are in contact along the respective edges.

Three-part stator blade

A one way clutch arranged for coupling a transmission having a stator shaft to a torque converter stator including a hub having an outer circumferential edge having a first wall extending perpendicularly therefrom and an inner circumferential edge having a hub spline arranged thereon, the first wall having at least one hub slot, and each of the at least one hub slot has a first length, a substantially cylindrical spring ring having a second wall, the second wall including at least one spring ring slot and at least one spring ring tab arranged adjacent to an open end of the at least one spring ring slot and forming at least a portion of an edge of the at least one spring ring slot, each of the at least one spring ring slot has a second length greater than the first length, the at least one hub slot in registered alignment with the at least one spring ring slot and the at least one spring ring tab arranged within and adjacent to the at least one hub slot and extends radially therethrough and a tab plate having a circumferential edge having at least one tab plate tab extending radially therefrom, the tab plate arranged axially and rotationally displaceable relative to the hub and the spring ring, the at least one tab plate tab is arranged within the at least one hub slot and/or the at least one spring ring slot.

One way clutch

The present invention broadly comprises a stator blade assembly for a torque converter stator including an inner ring having first openings; an outer ring having second openings; and extruded blades with first and second ends. The first end is disposed in a respective first opening and arranged to radially fix each blade with respect to the inner ring and the second end is disposed in a respective second opening and arranged to radially fix each blade with respect to the outer ring. In some aspects, the inner ring includes an inner circumferential surface and a portion of the first end extends radially inward past the inner surface and is in contact with the inner surface. In some aspects, the outer ring includes an outer circumferential surface and a portion of the second end extends radially outward past the outer surface and is in contact with the outer surface.

Extruded stator blade, stator with extruded blade, and method of forming a stator assembly with extruded blades

A stator for a torque converter, including a pump side blade plate with a first outer circumferential portion and a turbine side blade plate with a second outer circumferential portion in contact with the first outer circumferential portion. One of the first or second outer circumferential portions includes an axially extending lip with a plurality of notches and the other of the first or second outer circumferential portions includes a plurality of radially outward protrusions disposed in the plurality of notches and the lip includes a plurality of at least partially radially inward protrusions in contact with other of the first or second outer circumferential portions and exerting force on the other of the first or second outer circumferential portions to urge the pump and turbine side plates together.

Stamped stator assemblies and methods for assemblying stamped stator assemblies

A blade for a stator in a torque converter including a first face, which includes a first step, and a second face located substantially circumferentially opposite the first face. In one embodiment, the first face includes first and second disjointed or misaligned segments, and the first step connects the first and second segments. In another embodiment, the second face includes a second step. In yet another embodiment, the second face includes third and fourth disjointed or misaligned segments, and the second step connects the first and second segments.

Stepped stator blade

A hydraulic torque converter including a stator, a stator shaft, a one-way clutch including blocking elements and being connected to the stator shaft, a stator hub connecting the stator to the one-way clutch, and axial bearings supporting the stator hub, an axial length of the blocking elements being larger than an axial length between the bearings. Embodiments with blocking elements in a pump hub with an inner race with a radius similar to the stator shaft and with adjacent blocking elements are also disclosed.

Torque converter with stator shaft one-way clutch

A one-way clutch, including: a first annular element; a second annular element arranged to lockingly engage with the first element for relative rotation of the second element, with respect to the first annular element, in a first rotational direction; a third annular element at least partly rotatable about the axis and axially disposed between the first and second elements; and a fourth annular element at least partly rotatable about the axis and including a radially disposed body and an axial protrusion extending from the body and connected to the third element. The axial protrusion forms a portion of a space arranged to at least partially enclose fluid to dampen energy associated with the locking engagement of the first and second annular elements, and the first or second element is axially disposed between the third and fourth elements.

Ratchet one way clutch with hardened blocking plate

A stator, including: a one-way clutch with at least one slot opening radially outward from an outer circumferential portion of an outer race; and a blade assembly including first and second separately formed, stamped blade segments rotationally connected to the one-way clutch via the at least one slot. The blade segments are fixedly connected at respective outer circumferential portions. In one embodiment, the stamped blade segments include respective portions disposed in the at least one slot and disposed radially inward from respective blades for the respective blade segments. In one embodiment, the stator includes at least one rivet disposed in the at least one slot and fixedly secured to first and second portions of the first and second stamped blade segments, respectively, the first and second portions located radially inward from blades for the first and second stamped blade segments, respectively.

Interface for a stamped stator and a one-way clutch

A one-way clutch including a first radially disposed plate having at least one tab extending radially outward, and having a receiving feature or an axial protrusion; a second radially disposed plate including the other of the receiving feature or the axial protrusion; and a spacing element with at least one segment circumferentially interleaved with the at least one tab. One of the spacing element or the second plate is arranged for connection to a torque transmitting element in an automotive device, the at least one segment forms a mechanical path between first and second axial ends of the clutch, and the receiving feature and protrusion are lockingly engageable for relative rotation of the first and second plates in a first direction.
